The Fox Effect by David Brock, Ari Rabin-Havt & Media Matters for America Book Summary

Here is comprehensive overview of the tumultuous career of former Fox News president Roger Ailes and a must-read for anyone looking to understand his legacy and impact on news media.

Based on the meticulous research of the news watchdog organization Media Matters for America, David Brock and Ari Rabin-Havt show how Fox News, under its president Roger Ailes, changed from a right-leaning news network into a partisan advocate for the Republican Party.

The Fox Effect follows the career of Ailes from his early work as a television producer and media consultant for Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and George H. W. Bush. Consequently, when he was hired in 1996 as the president of Rupert Murdoch’s flagship conservative cable news network, Ailes had little journalism experience, but brought to the job the mindset of a political operative. As Brock and Rabin-Havt demonstrate through numerous examples, Ailes used his extraordinary power and influence to spread a partisan political agenda that is at odds with long-established, widely held standards of fairness and objectivity in news reporting.

Featuring transcripts of leaked audio and memos from Fox News reporters and executives, The Fox Effect is a damning indictment of how the network’s news coverage and commentators have biased reporting, drummed up marginal stories, and even consciously manipulated established facts in their efforts to attack the Obama administration.

Backed up by actual research and citation(s)! GREAT STUFF!. Now I know why FOX has been slandering MMA and Brock so relentlessly and vehemently over the last several weeks … this book is a FANTASTICALLY HARD and DETAILED LOOK at the SHAM-FEST that is FOX NEWS. PAINSTAKINGLY backed up with research and CITED WORKS, this exposé excoriates the FOLLY ridden drivel/bile vehicle that is this faux news FOX organization! Brock exposes it (FOX) as an ideologically/money driven political mouthpiece of the hard corporate RIGHTWING DANGEOUS-FRINGE that it actually is … the tail that waves the elephant! "SOME PEOPLE SAY" that FOX should maybe try some documentation use, citation(s), and neutral research out for themselves! "THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ALL feel" that they should really give it a try! Read it and lean! AN INCREDIBLY POWERFUL, exposed, jolting, ENDING … as the scab is RIPPED off the sore! LEARN!

This book illustrates how fox news is not civil. This book throws the curtain back on fox noises' radicalist agenda. Anyone who disagrees with what is espoused on fox is automatically labeled a "liberal" weather that person moderate or conservative, these people do not care. They do not care because their minds are owned by the Koch brothers and Murdoch. Anyone who researches the truth about anything that the people on fox 'news' is automatically labeled a "liberal" or even worse a "socialist". It is because their minds have become radicalized by conservative media and the tea party. If one did their own independent fact checking and followed non biased news reporting, people would be much more informed on news here and abroad. There was poll recently taken that a majority of people who watch fox on a 24/7 basis are less informed than people who do not watch fox news. Don't believe me? Look it up on the Internet and decide for yourself, for the cold hard facts are there.

The Fox Effect. Brock' s journey for objectivity takes more than a few wrong turns and the destination is never reached in the Fox Effect. At least some semblance of unbiased, fact base reportage would have at least made the reading manageable, but Brock shoots verbal broadsides continuously with no intellectual back- up.... depending rather on blind ideology for the liberal masses. Chalk this up to more "feed for the flocks" .... sheep in this case - the left leaning kind.

Good Read!. It goes to show you how partisan FOXNews is and how they like to move their agenda to their interviewers by showing miss information. But enough about that everybody knows that this reinforces that idea!

Ummm... And MSNBC is what?. Fox may slant right but compared to he grotesque left wing radical view and propaganda coming from MSNBC its laughable that this book was even written. The vast majority of he radical hosts on MSNBC refuse to debate heavyweight conservatives and instead just have like minded panels that just smirk pompously as they personally attack conservatives. Fox welcomes opposing views and is much more civil. Everyone knows that and that's why they bury MSNBC in viewership.

Double Standard. Does it not bother any of you liberals that while the authors of this book charge Fox with expressing republican views, nearly all other major U.S. news networks are leftists? Seriously, if you want to label Fox as politically biased, do the same for the rest of the networks.

I don't know what I was expecting. I don't know why I read this even though it was clear as day the depth of research in the description, but reading a book that relies on media matters for a fox news critique is like reading about msNBC backed on newsbusters or newsmax research

Worthless. Written by a liberal for liberals. Obviously fox is biased just like every single news paper and station out there. Fox is obviously republican they don't hide it, but they at least report both sides of the story and actually know what's going in in the world unlike any liberal. Liberals are just a mob of uneducated, unmotivated and lazy leeches. If they had to work hard for their money they would watch fox also. If you want to live your life blind and just follow everything everyone else says read this book. I recommend doing your own research and make up your own mind and stop just following the crowd blindly.

A bunch of bull crap. It gets one star for grammar and syntax usage. The rest is a pathetic attempt at turning lies into truth.

So important that the sycophantic foxnews dittoheads are already trying to discredit it. The greatest compliment this book could get is not from a fan of Media Matters' work like me. The greatest response that could possibly come from this book is the frightened, threatened, insecure, and ignorant responses it elicits from foxnews viewers who are constantly threatened by the truth that the network they get their news from is fabricating a fictional reality for them to comfortably rest in. Books like this, and organizations like MM tell a cold hard truth, a truth they don't want to hear because it tears down this comfortable version of reality they've managed to composite for themselves out of lies, exaggerations, and sociopathic fantasies. Indeed foxnews viewers are consistently rated the most misinformed news viewers in the country (one recent university study even showed that they are more misinformed than people who don't watch or read the news at all). That is one of the many truths outlined in this book, and that foxnews viewers will never accept, or acknowledge. They plug their ears and close their eyes and pretend these studies don't exist, but they do, and MM is ready to show you all of these things that foxnews would do anything in their power to make sure you don't see. The importance of this book can not be underestimated. I can't recommend it highly enough. And remember, the more foxnews fans it riles up into an angry tizzy, the better you know it is.

Reinforces what many of us already know!. To the reviewer who talks about the views of the founding fathers and who falsely believes that most Americans are bible thumping evangelicals, I doubt you even read this book or could even comprehend it. And you have certainly never read anything written by the founding fathers, who were NOT born again Christians and firmly believed that religion was a private matter and should be left out of government and public policy. The founding fathers were deists (google it, as I doubt you know what that is). If you stopped watching Fox news you would know all of this. People who watch Fox news do so because they are going to hear what they want to hear and certainly not the truth. Very sad!
