Celtic Christianity by Heinrich Zimmer Book Summary
The Celtic Church (c. A.D. 400-1150) was unique. They had their own life, style, rituals and rites, and their own understanding of just what it means to be Christian. The conversion of Ireland was virtually bloodless, which is almost unique to that country. What is it that makes these great Saints of the past so endearing to us today Heinrich Zimmer shows us what their faith and church practise was like from original source documents. But, unlike many who credulously take them at face value to make whatever use (Christian or not) of them they wish, Zimmer uses critical thinking and sleuth-like abilities to demonstrate the truth of their story. If you have a serious interest in Celtic Church history, this book is a forgotten "must-read."
