Heart wrenching. The book has twist and turns that fill you with adrenaline, fill you with dread, and fill you with joy. I read and read, unable to put this down, Ms. Draper does an extraordinary job of making you feel you are right there through the first attack of the milk-skinned men, and through the sorrow of goodbyes and the release of freedom.

Great Read!👏🙌👌👍. I am SO glad I purchased this book. I never read the description so had no idea what was in store. I was taken on such an emotional journey. There were many ups & downs, even complete "mouth on the floor" shock at times. The author is extremely talented & wrote so vividly that I at times felt I was right there experiencing the same feelings as the characters in the story. I will definitely suggest this book to others.

READ THIS!. This book is reaally good, I haven't finished reading it yet but I wouldn't recommend buying it on iBooks. Library!!

I love the journey. I love the journey that amari and Polly went through it’s a really good book there’s one part that’s a little umm drastic but it’s good to teach kids about slavery

Best book ever.. Currently I am reading this book in my history class in school. I love this book I bought it on my iPad and it is one of the best books I have ever read. It's got amazing twists and turns. It becomes kind of slow after the first 1 or 2 chapters but really starts to pick up towards the middle of the book. All in all it's a great book that holds your attention with great suspense. I would read it 100 times . Great book!!!

Very Good Book!. I believe it was a little advanced for teens in eighth grade. Very realistic but mature content. It expressed very deep emotion and I love the ending. It shows the reality of life and how things go in real life.

Great story.. It is a great story, made me cry, and I would recommend this book to anyone. This story is such an emotional ride, it’s awesome. I enjoyed everything about it, and would like a movie that tells the whole story exactly like it’s written.

100% Extraordinary!!!. This novel is absolutely FILLED with amazing character and plot twists and turns. I am in 8th and I read A LOT. 5 books per month at the most, and this book, I read it in 3 days!!!! It was so amazing, this is definitely a must have to have on your bookshelf! The reason this book is so amazing is because Draper uses realistic language and literature to grasp your attention of the setting, plot, and characters. Yes, there are quite a few mature concepts, such as racism, and overall slavery itself and the brutality of slavery, but it teaches us how slavery was just not about black people working in rice plantations, slavery is about SO SO SO much more. This book is definitely important in our society today and is amazing to just read in your free time.

AMAZING. My eyes were glued to this book.

What?. Not feelin the book. A lot of racism in it and very hard to follow, I’m not stupid either, I’ve written and revised my fair share of book. It’s just like why would you read this if people don’t like racism, just pointless at this point. MUST READ. I read this book in my eight grade class and i all i have are positive things to say about this book. So many times i gasped or sometimes it put me in tears. This is a MUST read!!!
