"Electrifying." –The New York Times Book Review

“Exhibits the potent blend of literary eloquence and street cred that earned him a Pulitzer Prize… Díaz’s prose is vulgar, brave, and poetic.” –O Magazine

From the award-winning author, a stunning collection that celebrates the haunting, impossible power of love.

On a beach in the Dominican Republic, a doomed relationship flounders. In a New Jersey laundry room, a woman does her lover’s washing and thinks about his wife. In Boston, a man buys his love child, his only son, a first baseball bat and glove. At the heart of these stories is the irrepressible, irresistible Yunior, a young hardhead whose longing for love is equaled only by his recklessness--and by the extraordinary women he loves and loses.

In prose that is endlessly energetic, inventive, tender, and funny, these stories lay bare the infinite longing and inevitable weakness of the human heart. They remind us that passion always triumphs over experience, and that “the half-life of love is forever.”

Oscar at his finest!. Loved this! Sad, funny, and captivating all at once.

Amazing. Love it

This is How You Lose Her. Funny and sad. Hopeful and tragic. Staggeringly good.

Love. Awesome book I love Junot's writing style.

How it won me. The individual portraits of each girl were magnetic stories that I wanted to stay in. When each one ended, another equally pulling one began. I couldn't help but want Yunior to be happy despite his transgressions.

Enjoyable, but not what I expected. I'm going through a difficult breakup, which was a result of my infidelity. So out of desperation, I turned to the Internet (lol) which suggested I read this. To tell you the truth, I am Yunior when it comes to relationships with women. I maybe had the thought that this was going cause some sort of revelation or awakening. I just felt like I was reading about myself. I just finished so maybe I need time to absorb. I did enjoy reading it I guess because I was done in one sitting. There are some difficulties if you're unfamiliar with the Spanish language and slang. The Internet, of course, was a go to for translating.

Good read!. I love to read but rarely have the time to do so, yet I read this book in less than two days...highly recommend this, especially after a breakup!

Not the best read. This book was a disappointment!

Terrible book. Very disappointing, not sure his some people gave rave reviews. Don't waste your money.

This is how you lose her. WORST book I have ever bought! Complete waste of $$$. Not even worth one star.

Loved it. I loved this book and I recommend that others read it. Of course it's a collection of short stories and it took a lot to get used to the fact that they didn't all run together in the way that I THOUGHT they should. As a writer I HIGHLY.

Loved it. Entertaining, easy read. Loved it!!

The half-life for love is forever.... Perfectly explained..

The best books can be confessions. Achingly honest. Gives one solace that however screwed up you are, and how messed up your life is, you are not alone. Never sappy. Always true. But, is it fiction? I guess nothing is ever more true than fiction. Maybe because it allows the writer to hide just enough to reveal everything. I could read this every day.

Total disappointment. Definitely not what I expected, it's okay if you just want to read short stories that is all over the place! Would not recommend!

Great Read 😊👍👏. This book is awesome! I

Spanglish. Loved the book and it's Spanglish galore!

Almost..... I was so close to purchasing this book. While on Instagram someone posted their copy, and I've been wanting something new to read while I'm on vacation from college. So, I download the sample, and as I'm reading I see a few errors but nothing too serious. It seemed like a pretty good read....up until....I read that one dreadful word....ni***r! #byefelicia

Fascinating!. Junot has a fascinating book here just as his previous book! You will definately enjoy reading about Yunior and find out Junot has such a fascinating literary style like none other!

Ghetto. I couldn't keep reading !!! It's made me feel uneducated and ghetto sorry !

Sad, funny, gritty, real!. Loved this book. I read it after reading , and loving, his award winning book "The Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao". You can't help feeling that the author IS Yunior (the protagonist in these stories.) It's life and love as you have never seen or read them.....in the gritty slang Spanish patois, which kept me running to the translator website. The author writes of his sadness and longing to belong....to love and be loved by someone, though he keeps destroying every relationship...knowing he's doing it, but unable to help himself. He made me feel his pain so deeply; which one of us hasn't been in one of his situations? Pivotal in the stories is Yunior's relationship with his brother, so tragic, but who figured so importantly in Yunior's life. Brilliantly written, it's a book I could not put down, and one of those that I was sorry to see end.

Trashy. Reading this book was a disaster. Only reason I'm giving it 2 starts and not 1 is because I did laugh at a few parts. It starts off good, funny, interesting, then quickly dies into being dull and just so horrible in the style it's being presented, and I just couldn't wait to finish it, and kept hoping it would get better. I found everything about the book, from the style of writing to the storyline trashy.

Raw and Introspective!. Although his patois may offend some, I am not one! The raw and very real narratives read like the way one would think! It's of cultural and social significance, but simultaneously provokes the internal struggles in us all. Love and relationships are examined through the most unique voice. A riveting insight as to why we make the choices we do and how to live with them. A testament to our innate search for closure and solace. Through ingenious narratives, we are shown that this end is not always achievable and we must accept our shortcomings, our disappointments and finally, to find a way to live with ourselves. I've suggested this book to almost everyone I know! There is something in it for everyone. It's a highly relatable piece of literary art!

Great book. Loved cant wait to read it again.

Amazing Simply spectacular.. Incredible. I was glued for two nights and could not put this down. The authors style truly allows you to become the characters. An amazing journey.

Amazing. So captivating, the style of writing kept me wanting to know more and I couldn't stop reading.

Great. It's a great book...couldn't put it down

This is How You Lose Her. Horrible. An entire book club just called a " cease and desist" on reading one more page of this trash. We are all amazed by the good reviews. Of the millions of great reads out there, this is not worth your time.

Amazing read. Poignant, funny, heartbreaking

Adictive, symbolic. Symbolizes de escence of the Quisqueyan Idiosyncrasy

Amazing!. It was hard to put my iPad down and take a break. Very entertaining and captivating. Recommend it as a must read. Great work Junot

Decent but not worth the $. It lost my interest in some parts but I muscled through the entire thing and it had it’s really good parts. Not a bad read but I wouldn’t pay $11 for it 🤷🏽‍♀️ His earlier work is much more impressive.
