La teoria dell'armonizzazione dell'handicap, alla quale ci ispiriamo, mira al perseguimento di una minor tensione tra le parti di sé per il perseguimento di un maggior benessere. Questo modello è stato mirabilmente esposto diversi anni fa dal capo-scuola Pier Luigi Postacchini, avendo come sintesi massima il testo “Lineamenti di Musicoterapia”. Tuttavia la pratica maturata in questo decennio ha dimostrato come questo modello abbia condotto a qualche inevitabile revisione metodologico/culturale. Inoltre, le prime esposizioni hanno generato alcuni fraintendimenti: spesso lo si è recepito come fortemente centrato sulla armonizzazione degli analizzatori sensoriali, mentre ora abbiamo evidenziato che tra le parti da rendere armoniche nel perseguimento del benessere va compreso il numero più ampio possibile di sfaccettature dell'esistenza, sia essa con o senza handicap. Vogliamo dunque considerare l'utilità anche dell'armonizzazione del mondo delle idee con quello degli eventi fisico-somatici, con quello relazionale, con quello delle strategie istituzionali.
Questo testo quindi, pur costituendosi come una evoluzione dell'impianto di Lineamenti di Musicoterapia, ne costituisce al contempo una versione chiarificata dall'esperienza pluridecennale che gli autori ne propongono.
