Friedlaender/Mynonas Nietzschebuch, konzipiert seit 1906, erschienen Ende 1910, hat bei Philosophen und Literaten Spuren hinterlassen: im frühen Expressionismus, im Berliner Dada sowie im Kreis um Georg Simmel, dem es die Drucklegung verdankt. Noch um 1930 wurde es als ein herausragendes Werk anerkannt. Das Buch ist keine Biographie. Im Nachvollzug von Nietzsches Lehre entwickelt Friedlaender/Mynona aus dem zentralen Gedanken der 'Mitte' des Lebens - Ring der Ringe, ewige Wiederkehr - seine eigene Philosophie: den Indifferentismus polarer Observanz. Also wieder ein Nietzschebuch, das nur ein Gegenmodell aufstellt? Nein! Bei aller Intensität wahrt der Autor kritische Distanz; er zeigt Nietzsche, wo er vor sich selber zurückschreckte und wie er hätte weitergehen sollen. Der Herausgeber stellt in einer ausführlichen Einleitung Friedlaender/Mynonas gesamte, über 50 Jahre währende Auseinandersetzung mit Nietzsche dar: die abenteuerliche Entstehung des Buches, die Korrespondenz mit Elisabeth Förster-Nietzsche, die humoristisch-praktische Anwendung in den Grotesken und, im Pariser Exil, die radikale Kritik an Nietzsche.
