Philosophy and the Social Problem Book Reviews
Philosophy and the Social Problem by Will Durant Book Summary
Brilliant author Will Durant tackles the role of philosophy in creating a greater society free from social inequality and predicated on social justice. Durant argues that philosophy has ascended into the safe realm of academic irrelevancy, when it should be down with the beaten and the hopeless, discovering the means to achieve greater happiness for all. The greatest problem, according to Durant, is not the problem of knowledge, it is the social problem, the problem of wants versus needs, the problem of rich versus poor, the problem of poor education, poverty, homelessness and famine. An excellent look into ways in which philosophy can be applied to better society as a whole.
