Sweet story!. Isabella is excited to babysit (dog-sit), when her mother leaves her in charge of their dog, Baxter. Baxter is an adorable pooch, full of energy, and proves to be a handful for Isabella. Isabella and Baxter entertain themselves and leave evidence of their fun around the house. All ends well, when Isabella's mom returns, and finds her daughter acting responsibly by cleaning up the mess. Simple, colorful illustrations clearly define the scenes that young readers will understand. This would make a fun story to read aloud, or for beginning readers to master on their own.

cute story. Isabella is a little girl who always is the one who needs a babysitter, until one day when mom needed help. She was given the big responsibility of babysitting her dog Baxter. Baxter is a handful. Isabella seems to have an awesome babysitter that she learned from because all of the activities she did with Baxter were right on par with what her babysitter would do with her. The pictures are colorful and fun. Perfect for ages 4-7. The great thing about this book is that it shows kids what a huge responsibility it is to care for someone or something else. Great Story!

Cute story for preschoolers. Isabella Babysits Baxter is a cute story about a 6-year-old girl who's babysitting for the first time. Her large, energetic puppy Baxter is the babysittee. Isabella takes her first babysitting job very seriously, despite the challenges of keeping up with the lively puppy. (As the mom of a toddler who's tried to do the same activities with him that Isabella does with Baxter, I can definitely relate!) Ultimately Isabella proves herself to be a responsible puppy-sitter (and does a much better job keeping up with Baxter than I do keeping up with my toddler some days). I like that this story teaches responsibility to kids, but without being at all heavy-handed about it. Isabella entertains Baxter and cleans up after him just because that's what she's supposed to do, not because anyone told her to. The artwork is simple but effective, and it definitely caught my toddler's eye as I read the story to his big brother. This probably isn't a book I would have picked on my own to read to my kids (I have all boys, and the cover design implies that this is a "girl's book" – not very gender-neutral of me, I know), but I'm glad we had the chance to read it. While the storyline is probably too simplistic to engage the interest of kids over the age of four or five, I think preschool age children (of either gender) will enjoy this story – giggling as Baxter keeps Isabella on her toes, and just maybe learning a little bit about responsibility as a side effect. I received a complimentary ecopy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Cute Story about Responsibility. This is a cute book about a little girl who is given the responsibility of watching her dog by herself for the first time. There are many trials and tribulations, all of which would be familiar and fun for a young child to read. The pages are bright and colorful with vibrant backgrounds and simple text. It's a great format for early readers. Young children who are just starting to understand responsibility will relate to Isabella's adventures, frustrations, and eventually her feeling of pride in a job well done. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Cute Story. I was gifted a copy of this book. Kids wants to be helpful and feel useful most of the time. My son loves to help me with his baby sister. I can leave them in the living room for short periods of time and I know that he will make sure she doesn't eat anything she shouldn't. This story is about a similar situation. Isabella is asked to watch her puppy Baxter while her mom paints. Her mom is apparently an artist because she says that she has to work. Isabella takes this opportunity to be the "babysitter". She feeds Baxter, plays with him, and even bathes him. It is so cute to see how things go the way Isabella expects and how they also don't. There's one page in the book that I found quite amusing and took a screenshot of it for my blog review. My son got a kick out of this story too saying that the puppy was being bad most of the time, but that he was a good friend to Isabella.

a cute story. The story draws to you from the start with a great bright cover and continues drawing you in with the illustrations. In this story Isabella becomes the babysitter. Her mother asked her to watch Baxter the family dog! Although Isabella doesn't realize that her mother is asking her to do this to keep her busy Isabella feels like a grown up. She goes about taking care of Baxter the way she would take care of herself. Dressing, snacking, playing, bathing and even cleaning up. I really enjoyed the part where she went to the kitchen to get her favorite snack fish crackers and she couldn't quite reach them, knocking them on over and some spilling on the floor brought a giggle from me, knowing that Baxter like any dog wouldn't be able to resist. At the end of the story when "mom" was ready to take Baxter for his walk, she discovered Isabella and Baxter cleaning up and to me this part teaches a lesson about responsibility and cleaning up after yourself. Job well done and I can see many kids loving the playfulness of this book.

Awesome book. Isabella's mom is busy and asks her to take care of the dog until she is done. Isabella is so excited because she does not ever get to babysit. They have a fun day and make messes. But at the end they clean up and get to go on a walk with her mom. It was a cute story. My kids loved it. Espically when Baxter makes messes and is hyper. A definate must read. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Story of Love & Care. This picture book is beautifully illustrated and well written. While it's more for the younger ones in the suggested age group in terms of reading level, the story appeals to the older ones as well. Every character in the book is adorable, including, Isabella, her mom and her dog. The story encourages kids to take their share of responsibility as a family member and to offer help to their loved ones (Yes, mom needs every bit of help she can get!). It also depicts a very realistic picture about the messy situation kids are very likely to get into when doing something "big" for the first time. All is told in a humorous, loving tone. Meanwhile, it drops friendly hints about how parents should react to the mess their children make from their well-intentioned actions. I find this book to be both entertaining and educational and would highly recommend it to both children who start to read independently and parents who love to read with their little ones. Disclosure: I received a free copy of the book to facilitate my honest review.

Cute for the young kiddos.. We received this book to give an honest review. K and I enjoyed reading how Isabella looked after her dog Baxter. K thought it was funny that they both got into the fish crackers and made a huge mess. This is a quick, easy read, and the illustrations are colorful. I liked how this book shows what a big responsibility it is to take care of either someone or something. In this case a dog. If you leave a puppy alone there is a lot they can get into so Isabella gets to find things to keep them out of the trouble until her mother is done working. Being six years old and dog-sitting can result in a lot of fun!

Cute book!. Book Review Isabella Babysits Baxter by Melissa Perry Moraja Cute book! I read it to my (almost) 3 year old. It kept her attention and she even giggled at a few places. She asked me to read it to her a second time and I gladly complied. She especially enjoyed the "fish crackers" scattered all over the floor and the mess that Baxter made in the bathroom. The facial expressions in the illustrations really help tell the story. That certainly helped my little one understand the silly parts. The age range for this book is wide. It can be read aloud to children as young as two, but can be used for silent reading for kids up to ten. It is also a story to which most children can relate. So many families have pets and surely have experienced some of the mayhem! Although I expected a more intriguing ending, I appreciate the lessons it teaches about responsibility and cleaning up the messes we make. The story as a whole offers a clear, humorous, and child-friendly example of achieving success and reaping the reward.

Cute and Relatable for Kids. My 2 and 4 year old girls loved this book. They loved the pictures of Baxter, and my 4 year old could definitely relate to being given a real "responsibility". While it's obvious to the adult reader that Isabella's mom is trying to keep Isabella out of the way while she finishes up some work, young children see it as an opportunity to be in charge. A simple book, but a fun read for young kids. **I received a pdf copy in exchange for my honest review**
