Spectacular for children. Absolutely perfect.. Stellar is all I can say. It brings me joy to see such a spin on this normally unchanging genre. So many children feel ostracized growing up because they never see themselves in books or TV, but this can help change it! Representation matters so, so much and whoever is brave enough to publish it should be applauded!

finally. i wish i had a book like this in my school libraries, but hopefully one day this will be in schools all over. the illustrations and words are beautiful and a story that deserves the love and attention.

Perfect pairing of.... This book is a perfect pairing of classic storytelling and rhymes with an easy to grasp theme. I can’t wait to read it to my daughter. I want her to know she can talk to me about anything, she can feel anything, and she can be anything. She should accept others as they are and seek to be empathetic. This book will be a great tool for us. Oh! And the pictures are perfect! Just enough to help tell the story without being too busy or garnering more attention than the theme.

Awesome. I loved it! The rhymes were fun and catchy, the princess was a headstrong and lovable character, and the drawings were my favorite! Not to mention this is a fabulous representation of the LGBT+ community! Definitely going to recommend this book to my friends and family. Great job!

It warmed my heart to know that by the time my generation will be having kids there will be plenty more books like this to show kids that they don’t have to be cishet or just to show them a little bit of diversity to open up their world just the littlest bit more. Overall this is just plain precious and the dwarf part was a great addition.

Not a children’s book!. I picked this book for my 8yr old son to read and was surprised at what I heard while listening to him read. I do not think that children should be influenced to opposite sexuality. When they are old enough to make their own decisions that’s fine but reading about it in a children’s book is inappropriate. I do not recommend letting your child read this book.

Why?. Zero stars if I could. No reason at all that this needs to be in a children’s book. Stopped reading it to my child half way through.

Preread before sharing with your kids. See if it is something you’re ready to discuss with them

Once Upon a Story You’ve Always Been Told.. This book is amazing. I’m 18 and have been questioning my sexuality for more than a year now. Having something like this around when I was younger, to open my eyes and mind to the other possibilities for my sexuality could have helped me through this much earlier on in my life. The use of rhyming makes the book flow, while at the same time really makes you read and listen to words written. The drawing are great, they show uniqueness and difference is nothing to be judged by. The use of colour through your the book symbolising the LGBTQ+ flag is great, it entices young children even if they don’t yet know what those colours represent. All in all I think this is a fantastic book, one for all ages although more tailored to the young of course. I think it is a great way to educate younger children about the new world hat we live in where everyone is accepted for themselves and that they can be and love who they want without question.

A classic with an amazing “twist”.. The book is awesome! A very good balance between a unique storytelling and beautiful illustrations.

Loved It. These types of books are necessary! Kids grow up reading and listening to the ‘ideal’ happy endings, but the ending can only be happy when you are with who you love whether a female or male. This message needs to get around and a children’s book is a great way!

A princess for 2018. This booked warmed my heart and made me excited to be a girl!!! This book shows me why it’s important to have a counter narrative, one that puts a girl as the hero of the story. I liked reading a story that tells me being a girl makes me smart and funny and cool and capable of rescuing someone! Thank you to the creators for making something that rings true, and that right away opens up a new perspective.

LOVED IT!. This book is long over due! I absolutely loved the book and the illustrations are incredible(they brought back paper bag princess memories). This book was so well written and you can tell it has passion behind it. With today’s ever changing world our kids need to feel like they have a voice and they are accepted. This book brings to light that there is no norm anymore, that the beauty of the world today is the diversity. I think Julie Sype did an amazing job of putting it to paper and giving kids who might feel a little different solid ground to stand on.

Parents be aware this is not the bedtime story you think!. I am not homophobic but I would’ve liked to read a gender neutral book to my 6 year old. When you is old enough to make a decision about how she feels about someone then I am ok with that. As this was a free book from Apple this month because of the isolation of COVID-19 I was not happy when I got to the 52% mark of reading this. I did discuss it with my wife and she felt the same way. This is not a book for all families, although it has its place in society please read it thoroughly first. I am going to do this from this moment on and not thrust somebody else’s choices onto a child.

Today’s Book for Tomorrow’s Hearts. There is a need for more stories like these, stories that can engage ages of either side of the spectrum. The rhyme and captive blend of classic and new works melodically with its simple yet under-sung message. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Overwhelming, emotional.. How can I say the few words that may be enough to describe how I felt about this book? It was emotional, overwhelming, inspiring, thought-stirring, motivating, capturing, and the adjectives could go on and on but the feelings and thoughts it has left me with will not. I have recommended this book to all friends and family. I will be reading this book as a bedtime story to all kids and will be suggesting it to other teachers and parents! Good luck!
