Maxine Weeks Biography & Facts

MaXXXine is a 2024 American slasher film written, directed, produced and edited by Ti West. It is the third installment in the X film series and a direct sequel to X (2022). The film stars Mia Goth, who reprises her role as Maxine Minx, alongside Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon. In the film, Maxine sets out for fame and success in 1980s Hollywood while being targeted by a killer known as the Night Stalker. MaXXXine had its premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on June 24, 2024, and is scheduled to be released in the United States by A24 on July 5, 2024. Plot A young Maxine is shown in an old black and white film saying she wants to grow up and be famous and her father asks her to say their mantra with conviction: "I will not accept a life I do not deserve." In 1985 Los Angeles against the backdrop of the Night Stalker murders, Maxine successfully auditions for the lead in The Puritan II despite her background being in the adult film industry. She excitedly shares the news with her friend Leon and fellow adult entertainer Tabby. We see another of Maxine's colleagues, Amber, dancing for a mysterious leather clad figure who reacts violently to what they are seeing. After her performance, Amber mentions a party in the Hollywood Hills she plans on attending which Tabby had also mentioned. Maxine declines their invitations. Amber and Tabby are shown pleading and tied up at the house before being recorded and forced into a mysterious room. The same figure who watched Amber dance leaves a sex tape for Maxine which she angrily watches before asking a confused Leon if he can find how it was made. Maxine is invited to meet with John Labat, a private investigator who informs Maxine her previous crimes will come to light unless she meets with his employer who he refuses to name. Labat warns her that she must appear at an address that night or risk repercussions. When Maxine sees Labat is following her, she attacks him warns him to stay away from her. It is reveled the same leather clad figure is the one who had hired Labat. Detectives Torres and Williams ask Maxine about Tabby and Amber but she refuses to divulge details. When showing up late to set, she is chastised by director Elizabeth Bender who tells her never to be late again and to not blow her opportunity for stardom. While a plaster molder is being made of her head for The Puritan II, Maxine has a breakdown as she thinks about the events in Texas. Since Maxine did not show up to meet Labart's employer as demanded, the latter shows up at the video store where Leon works and brutally murders him. The next day the detectives goad Maxine by showing her Leon on the stretcher but she still refuses to help them. She comes clean to her agent Teddy Knight, who later tells her he could not find any information about Labat but will help her. On the set of The Puritan II, Maxine meets the star of the first film Molly Bennett. A friendly Molly mentions a party in the Hollywood Hills before calling Maxine the wrong name. Labat shows up on the studio lot and chases Maxine before being caught and escorted off the lot by security. At a club that night, Maxine tricks Labat into following her when he is confronted by her, Knight and her friend Shephard. A handcuffed Labart is crushed to death while in his car. Deciding to take matters into her own hands, Maxine visits the address Labat had given her, which is that of the Hollywood Hills house. Seeing the killer's clothes, she discovers it is her father, Ernest Miller, who captures her before admonishing her and Hollywood for promoting a life of sin. He tells her Amber and Tabby both refused his overtures to find God and that he will scar her too unless she accepts. Before Miller can continue, Torres and Williams interrupt and get in a shootout Miller and his cohorts. While pursuing Miller, Torres and Williams are mortally wounded. Maxine arms herself with a shotgun before catching her father at the Hollywood sign but is interrupted by a circling police helicopter who tells her to drop her weapon. Maxine, now a star and credited for helping to find the Night Stalker, shows up at the very successful premiere of The Puritan II. While being interviewed on the red carpet, it is revealed Maxine and Bender are now collaborating on a film about the former's early life. Maxine flashes back to her childhood memory from the beginning of the film and we see her and her father at the Hollywood sign repeating their mantra before she shoots him with the shotgun. On the set of their new film, Bender asks Maxine how she feels about success before she responds "I hope it never ends" as they look on at her now finished, disembodied head mold. West states, while a viewer can watch each movie independently without seeing the previous film, they are made to "complement each other."
