The Phoenix Reckoning by Richard L. Sanders Book Summary

As Kalila's forces battle the Rotham invasion, Blackmoth is attempting to detonate an isotome weapon in close proximity.

After a coup against White Rook, Raidan now controls the Organization. He has taken his remaining warships to Capital World, the planet he loves most in the galaxy, and is threatening to destroy it, unless Caerwyn Martel is surrendered to his custody.

Calvin has returned to the Nighthawk and together he and his crew attempt their most dangerous adventure yet, an excursion into Forbidden Space where, Calvin believes, he will uncover the ultimate truths behind the remaining secrets. Including who the mysterious human is that the Rahajiim intelligence failed to identify.

Rain and Calvin have developed romantic feelings for one another, but can there be any future for the stalwart adventurer and dying doctor? Summers also has feelings for Calvin, though she denies them.

Tristan demands what was promised. Nimoux struggles to recover from a gunshot wound. Rez’nac is desperate to reclaim his honor. Shen wants desperately for Sarah to give him another chance—meanwhile he must struggle with the debilitating pain of The Calling. The Khans threaten to take Aleator One, with the help of the vicious Enclave.

All the while, the Dread Fleet has begun its campaign of extermination, starting with the Polarian Worlds it deems too secular. Their unstoppable march of death and devastation leads them to human space where, either the Empire will find some way to stop them, or else humanity will fall as fulfillment of Polarian prophecy. The Final Battle. The Final Darkness. The Final Reckoning!

Worth the Time. Starting last year I stumbled on to the Phoenix series out of longing for some good S.F. I haven't been disappointed and I look forward to the conclusion reluctantly because I don't want it to end. It's been a fun read, good characters, and a great story. Even the audio versions have held my interest as well as with my wife who never reads S.F. Bravo. The best for my tastes since the Rama Series.

Outstanding. Brilliant... Absolutely brilliant!! Can't wait for the final chapter, but hate to see it end. What a great ride!!

Fast paced as the first!. If you follow the author on Facebook you can get the particulars of the grammar issues. They are being fixed. You can also read the particulars for why the book is split in two. I'd much rather a better story than something pieced together to appease the ebook masters and their arbitrary deadlines. Anyway, a really fast paced and fun read! Much better than some of the sequels as far as pacing is concerned. Truly enjoyable. I'll be sad when the last installment is produced!

Worth the wait. Fun read. Kept me on the edge of my seat. Can not wait for the conclusion.

Punctuation and grammar errors abound. I really expected better... It was bad enough that the author split the "final" book into two, thereby doubling his profit but I've seen better grammar and proofreading by children. The number of times I had to judge what was being said by context was appalling. Did they proofread at all? Maybe you should hire me to proofread the second part? But then again I'm reconsidering the final purchase. If no better it's not worth eight bucks!!

Good plot, unrealistic science. Enjoyable tale, with good plot and good variety of characters to follow. However, some aspects are gratingly unrealistic : in a future of galactic empire why are soldiers still armed with the guns of today? What has medical science barely advanced? Why are space navy officers constantly distracted by female officers being beautiful, even in the midst of battle? Does a would be leader really think people will accept him because they would prefer a king to a queen? Surely in this future humanity would have got over that bias at last? There's quite a lot of description of politics (which are a cross between the U.K. House of Commons and a Star Wars vision) which could have been shortened and generally the plot could have more succinct - I'll read the last book as i want to know the ending, but the journey is feeling a little tedious now. Overall for the series - 3 stars.

Phoenix reckoning. Time for book Seven, with a short interlude first to get my breath back. As for book Six, the arranging of the series to end in this finale should even more breathtaking. I’m sure I shan’t be let down.

Rushed lead to the conclusion. I trust the second part of the 'final' book will me better finished than this? This definitely seems like rushed attempt to pad out the finale, despite the authors opening statements. However, numerous monologues and introspection slow it down. Not to mention the vast number of typos, alternate words (predictive spelling, or word recognition?) and punctuation errors, along with one clear instance of the wrong name for a character, make it a bit of a let down for those of us who have enjoyed the saga. It all seems just a bit slipshod, as if the need to 'get something out' on time was the priority, not the quality of the story. Please can the second part be a bit more polished - and properly proof read - before publication, even if it means it's a bit late - the readers would prefer that.

Outstanding story. Could not put the book down. Great characters, great action, great mysteries!! Well done.

Money Grabbing Filler.... Despite the authors ardent claims to the contrary at the beginning of the book - this is simply an opportunity to extent the final chapter across two books rather than one in an attempt to eke out as much cash from the series as possible. As such this latest offering is full of numerous "filler" chapters and scenarios that clearly have no place in the overall story and as such seem forced and miss-aligned with the central plot themes. Characters often actions seemly completely at odds with real human behaviour and emotions and without a modicum of common sense surfacing throughout the entire book. People don't act this way - and in this instance these characters only do so due to the fact that there is obviously a need to generate more content to fill an additional revenue generating novel. A shame because I genuinely have enjoyed this series up until this book and I can't help but feel let down by the obvious corporate greed that has clearly governed its creation.
