The Stranger. Contrary to “About this Book”, this 99 cent edition is not the Matthew Ward translation.
Improvement. I’m glad I read this book after A Happy Death because I can see the author’s writing improved.

Great read. A great short book to think about social norms and mental illness vs nihilism Recommend!
The Outsider seems more appropriate. Upon finishing, I now understand what the fuss was about.
The Stranger. A powerful and uncomfortable reading experience as the reader is obligated to examine society's expectations of another's behaviour. Mersault is "the stranger" in his world as he doesn't fit in. He is isolated by his apathy, lack of empathy towards others, and recognition and acceptance of the meaninglessness of everyday life. I couldn't help but compare Mersault to Huxley's character, John the Savage, of 'Brave New World', where John found he couldn't belong to either of the civilisations depicted. There too, the main character cannot be false to himself in order to meet society's expectations.
An analysis of death. What does it mean to live and to die
Outstanding. A truly thought provoking read concerning the significance of any action or decision.
