Polymorphisme du raisonnement humain propose un examen de ces travaux, complété par celui de formes de raisonnement non déductif encore peu étudiées : l'induction, l'abduction, le raisonnement avec des informations incertaines, la non-monotonie. L'auteur conteste le postulat d'un mécanisme inférentiel, unique ou fondamental, adopté par les théories de la logique mentale et des modèles mentaux, et envisage diverses formes de rationalité de la pensée. Une conception pluraliste est proposée, qui se réfère à la coexistence de deux modes inférentiels fondamentaux susceptibles d'opérer, isolément ou conjointement et, dans ce dernier cas, avec des résultats divergents ou convergents. L'ouvrage s'adresse aux étudiants de 2e et 3e cycles, ainsi qu'aux enseignants et aux chercheurs, en psychologie et disciplines connexes des sciences cognitives.
