I pazienti borderline hanno il diritto di aspettarsi di meglio o, almeno, che i professionisti della salute mentale addetti alla loro cura abbiano ricevuto una formazione di base.
Lo scopo di questo manuale è quello di fornire i mezzi attraverso i quali gli psichiatri e gli altri professionisti della salute mentale possano diventare “sufficientemente bravi” per trattare con competenza la maggior parte dei casi di BPD ed avere la soddisfazione di averlo fatto bene.
I principi fondamentali del Good Psychiatric Management (GPM) derivano principalmente dall’esperienza clinica e dalla conseguente crescita personale. I terapeuti che praticano il GPM sono incoraggiati ad essere agenti attivi nell’aiutare i pazienti borderline a capire la propria esperienza interiore, dare nuova forma ai loro adattamenti comportamentali e crearsi una vita positiva. Questo trattamento utilizza agevolmente interventi cognitivi, comportamentali e psicodinamici.
