The story, Mind on the Job, introduces skills of attention control through the tale of ’ants at work’ and the antics of the inattentive character - Iris. Iris experiences difficulty maintaining focused attention and controlling her thinking for productive work. Her low energy and daydreaming result in a number of work mishaps that lead to frustration on the part of both Iris and her co-workers. But all is not lost! With the help of Hoppy, the wise and helpful ant, Iris learns to use self-instructional talk and a plan to help her stay focused and get the job done. In this story, children learn about the importance of helpful thinking, focused listening and attention to task.
Written by an educational and developmental psychologist and a speech-language pathologist, the Ant Patrol Children’s Stories are modern-day Aesop’s fables that target the typical challenges of childhood found in every home and school.
