Distraction by Nicole Edwards Book Summary

Time doesn’t always heal a broken heart. Sometimes the only thing it does is fill the darkness with more shadows, more pain.

Dylan Thomas has spent the past decade living in the shadows, mourning the loss of his wife, his best friend, his very reason for breathing. He long ago accepted that he would never feel again, that he was damned to a world without light, without hope. That was the day the bottle won, and he gave himself over to the darkness.

Until the one night that rocked his brittle, crumbling world on its axis. She told him what they shared was simply a distraction, a way to forget for a little while. It would’ve been, except the tiny glimpse of how it feels to live again, to feel again, gives him the strength he needs to pull himself up by his boot straps. But sobriety comes one day at a time, and three years later may be three years too late.

Dylan gets a chance at happiness.... Distraction is the much anticipated final book in the Club Destiny series. While this is the eighth book in the series it can be read as a complete stand alone, but this is literally one of the best erotic romance series out there and I can't recommend it enough. Please be aware this book does contain some steamy sex of the ménage variety (female with multiple male partners). Sarah Fulton has known heartache and loss after becoming a widow unexpectedly. While practically raising her nephew - Jake - and merely existing worked for a short while she knew she needed a change. So Sarah reinvented herself and shed all the reminders of her previous life in a dramatic transformation. Six years after her husband died and three years after her makeover she accompanies her nephew to his work function and runs into the one man that has always gotten under her skin - Dylan. Sarah quickly notices she isn't the only one who went through some changes and appreciates how well Dylan seems to be... Dylan Thomas lost his wife to cancer eleven years ago and checked out on his friends and family shortly thereafter. While he was always there for his children he made some bad choices in regards to other areas in life. Dylan decides enough is enough and slowly starts putting his life back together. Three years have gone by since the last time he was in a room with Sarah and he quickly realizes she still affects him on a visceral level even kick starting feelings he hasn't had in years. This book was a bit different from the other Club Destiny books in that they spent little time actually in the club. This was more a story of life & love and how two broken souls find their way back to each other after overcoming the obstacles that stood in their way. While there is still plenty of steamy romance the anxiety and depression that both the H/h have suffered from is featured just as prominently. Overall this series will always be one of my favorites and with the author's spin-off series already in the works I can't wait to see what happens next!

An Emotional Journey in an Amazing Series with Hints of What is to Come Next. Distraction, Club Destiny’s final chapter, is a bit of a different journey than the rest of the series, but that is not a bad thing. Nicole Edwards’s note to her readers in the beginning of the book sets the tone of what to expect, and for me, I paid deeper attention so I could try and understand the issues as told by someone who has experienced depression first hand. Dylan and Sarah have known each other since high school, but they each ended up with different people to share their lives with, or so they thought, but forever was not to be. It took me a little bit to get into the story. It starts with laying out how Dylan and Sarah are affected by depression, at least you are given the beginnings of how it affects them, and then moves forward three years to what happens next. I love this series and for the most part, the books are more upbeat, but don’t let that make you hesitate to add this emotional and complex book to your reading list. There are the characters from previous books we have come to love, hot sex and club experiences, but there is more in this one. Not every relationship is perfect, nor starts out in a storybook way. You get a more real, gritty experience with two people who are aware of their problems, differences, desires, and hope, to overcome their problems one day at a time. I loved how Sarah realized that to move forward with her life, she had to change herself and that she had the courage to do just that. I appreciated how both Sarah and Dylan kept trying to work things out because they wanted something they didn’t have, even if they weren’t sure how to get it. I found it moving to see how their support system did what ever they could to help them overcome their challenges. Add to all that, a hot experience with Nate and Jake at the club, a hint of what is coming with Trent in a new series, and you have a book you should not miss. Nicole Edwards books are on my “must buy” list and this one is no exception.

Distraction. Loved it! Club Destiny was the first series that I read from Nicole Edwards which makes it all the more bittersweet as it now comes to an end. It certainly has ended with a bang! Thank you Nicole for telling us Dylan's story. So many issues that many face in life were brought forth in this book, depression, alcoholism, guilt and fear. Dylan and Sarah both had a lot to overcome and each had different struggles but shared the commonality of losing a spouse who they loved deeply. Each knew they needed to move on and made the changes necessary to do so. It certainly wasn't smooth sailing to reach their ultimate reward...a second chance at love. Nicole has once again brought forth wonderful characters and a story that I am sure you will enjoy! I voluntarily reviewed an Advances Reader Copy of this book.

Great Love Story. Distraction is the final book in Nicole Edwards Club Destiny series. It’s bittersweet for me because the first book I ever read of hers was Conviction, book one in the series. Such a good ending to the series! This is the story of Dylan and Sarah and I admit I was worried about this book because we all know how Dylan has struggled with depression and alcoholism. I should’ve know better because Ms. Edwards has written antoher wonderful story and will take you on an emotional ride while dealing with depression, alcoholism, death, guilt, and ever fear, but also forgiveness and love. This story was a long time coming and so worth the wait.

When Distractions become second chances. Club Destiny was one of the first series I read when my book addiction started a few years ago. I was hooked from Conviction! And when this series started integrating with the Walker Brothers I was done! Nicole had quickly become one of my favorites! Anyway...what better way to end this series than with a love story so sweet, so honest & so freaking HOT!!! Dylan & Sarah were high school sweethearts, each with a past of lost love that hardens their hearts & causes them to put up walls, who find their way back to each other for a Distraction that is destined to be forever. With it's plot twists & unexpected characters (one in particular), this story made me laugh & cry & got my husband REALLY lucky!! Toss in another sex club & BAM, let the sparks fly. I can't wait to see where Nicole goes with the next series. I know she'll have some hot characters that will knock your socks off!

A fitting conclusion to a fantastic series. Distraction is Dylan and Sarah's story and was a book that was a long time in coming, not only for us the readers, but for Ms. Edwards, who has made no secret of the fact that she suffers from depression. This was one of my most anticipated reads for 2017 and I was not disappointed. Having read Distraction in virtually one read, I can understand how much this book could and would have impacted Ms. Edwards and the writing process. This book confronts issues of depression, alcoholism, guilt and fear, that many of us have had to deal with in real life from both sides of the fence and was at times difficult for me to read. Having said that, the subject matter was handled with integrity and although at times the rawness and the grittiness of the emotion and pain had me in tears, it was extremely well written; the layers that Ms. Edwards built throughout this book, were slowly peeled away, just like an onion, allowing love to blossom for Dylan and Sarah. This book got to me and touched me deeply on so many levels; it was an emotional and riveting read, a roller-coaster of a ride. Of course being a Nicole Edwards book the chemistry between Dylan and Sarah was off the charts and it most certainly led to some steamy scenes, throw in some BDSM and I was always going to be hooked. However for me, this book primarily was a true love story, of overcoming fears, of acceptance, not only of others but of ourselves and with hard work and determination how a person can triumph. Distraction is the final book in Nicole Edwards Club Destiny series, a series that holds a special place in my heart. Conviction, book one in the series, was my introduction to Nicole Edwards and her wonderful writing. Not only did I find books and characters that I fell in love with, but I found a whole group of sisters. We may not be blood related but we are sisters, in fact several off us from across three continents all got a Celtic sisterhood tattoo and I hold Nicole Edwards responsible for this, as we all met in her original Nicole Nation group. They are my inked sisters and I will always be grateful to Nicole Edwards for bringing us together. Well done Nicole Edwards, what a fitting conclusion to one of my favourite series.

Fantastic book to end a series on. Dylan was the story I have been waiting for and Nicole Edwards has given me just what I wanted an in depth story that wasn't rushed, it was written brilliantly and with compassion. This book deals with what life is all about when you are battling depression, it covers all the issues that Dylan and Sarah faced when trying to move on with their life's. They need a Distraction to move forward with their life and this book is not just a story it's an emotional journey, I laughed, I cried, but there was no way I was putting it down before I read the final line. Nicole Edwards has once again given us a fantastic read, Club Destiny may be finished but I'm looking forward to maybe a spin off series

I am going to miss this series. I love this series and will miss it so much. Dylan and Sarah's story is just gorgeous, and I can totally understand why it would have been a hard one to write. These two have suffered so much in their lives with the unexpected and painful loss of their loved other halves, so it was great to see them working out their issues and finding comfort and new love with each other.
