Bitten by a Camel by Kent Dobson Book Summary
Kent Dobson climbed Mount Sinai in search of the God who had eluded him.
Instead he got bitten by a camel.
Dobson was climbing the ladder of Christianity, too: a worship leader, teacher, and ultimately senior pastor of one of the largest and most prominent churches in America. But he was growing disillusioned with the faith, at least inside the shell of organized religion.
One Sunday morning, he preached to his congregation, “I don’t know what the word God even means anymore.” He soon left the church, but his quest for God became more intense than ever.
In Bitten by a Camel, Dobson deconstructs much of what passes as Christianity, but on the foundation of Jesus and the Bible, he reconstructs a faith that is fulfilling, life-giving, and true—true to himself and true to God. Dobson’s message is funny, poignant, and winsome. And it is ultimately, like the message of Jesus himself, hopeful.

Magician Preacher. It's really hard to put actual language to what we know is true because of our human experience. This book really met me in the middle of all my questions and helped to be more confident in choosing a better way to live! I moved away from the Bible Belt a few years ago to be in the Navy, and I think sometimes it takes physically getting outside of a particular system to see a new perspective and discover a fresh pursuit of living Spirit! In my opinion, the joy of love and hope for change is a much truer and better way to live then to just go along with the show and never really feeling actually alive. God can do better than our assumptions! In an age of "fake news" I want something real. Thank you KD!!
Confirming. I've always felt as if I have never fit into my fundamental baptist background. Kent has put into words what my soul always knew. I no longer feel like I am a failure at being "a Christian". I finally can let go of shame and guilt of not living up to what I was TOLD being a good Christian is. Thank you, now my soul can be free to see and experience God in my real, messy, amazing life.
