Vom Beginn der NS-Verfolgungspolitik an wurde und wird diese literarisch verarbeitet. Im Exil, in den Lagern und Gettos sowie in der freien Welt schrieben Menschen über den Holocaust. Auch heute, über 70 Jahre nach dem Krieg, ist er ein wichtiger Topos der Gegenwartsliteratur. Dabei übernimmt die Auseinandersetzung mit der Holocaustliteratur eine immer bedeutendere Rolle,
da nur noch wenige Zeitzeugen von ihren Erlebnissen berichten können.
Sascha Feuchert und Markus Roth haben namhafte Autorinnen und Autoren gebeten, über zentrale Texte der Holocaustliteratur zu schreiben. Das Buch bietet mitunter sehr persönliche Perspektiven auf das Werk verschiedener Schriftsteller, Einblicke in vergessene oder unbeachtete Texte und es ruft manchen »Klassiker« der Holocaustliteratur, dessen Lektüre weiter zurückliegen mag, wieder in Erinnerung. Entstanden ist so ein subjektives Panorama der Holocaustliteratur in ihrer ganzen Vielfalt von ihren Anfängen bis in unsere Tage.
