Se publica por primera vez en castellano, de la mano del filólogo, escritor y traductor Gabriel Insausti la obra completa en prosa -a excepción de algún texto menor- del poeta inglés Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844-1889). Ejemplo claro del "síndrome de van Gogh", su poesía, ignorada en vida, recibió una notoria aprobación en las primeras décadas del siglo XX, influyendo en significativos autores como Ivor Gurney, W.H. Auden, Arthur Waley o el Nobel de Literatura T.S. Eliot.
Tras su despegue póstumo como poeta, se suscitó un fuerte interés por editar su prosa, que salió a la luz a finales de los años cincuenta, cuando se pudo acceder a todo el material disponible, principalmente ensayos, cartas, diarios y sermones, acompañados de dibujos del propio Hopkins. En él se revelan diversos aspectos poco conocidos de su vida y su personalidad, además de sus reflexiones sobre los más variados asuntos, como la sociedad moderna, el capitalismo industrial o el conflicto irlandés, y sus ideas estéticas, en particular, sus indagaciones sobre métrica y prosodia.
