The FBI WAY. This is a timely book with the distrust of the FBI increasing greatly due to the inappropriate actions of several FBI Senior Agents during the Trump Presidency. I learned a lot about their high standards, especially integrity. However, the author lost a lot of credibility when he right from the start tore down President Trump but only accused the Director of the FBI, James Comey, of poor judgment in the handling of Hillary Clinton’s emails. No mention of 30,000 deleted emails, and all devises destroyed and bleached. While Comey was no longer the Director, days after being fired he illegally leaked a memo to a friend who he knew would leak it to the NYT. He committed a felony and absolutely no mention! I agree with the author that Senior Agent Peter Strzok, though he allowed his political partisanship to override his training and integrity, probably should not have been fired 26 hours before he could retire and get his pension. Probably unjust, but it really makes one wonder where the Senior “Leadership” oversight was on this whole episode. No mention of FISA warrants? I have renewed respect for our FBI Agents, but seriously doubt the apolitical requirement of the Senior Leadership. While I learned a lot about the FBI, I was left with the uncomfortable impression that the author wrote this book to build up our FBI Agents and hide the true crimes and political shenanigans of the Senior “Leadership” of the top law enforcement agency in our country. Sad.

A Must Read. The FBI Way by Frank Figluzzi The FBI Way is fascinating & often uplifting. Frank Figluzzi shares his insight into the inner workings of the FBI and how it operates, as well as how it has evolved to meet the growing, ever changing, threats from outside & within the US. Few people ever are held to the same level of accountability, standards, & critical review, as those who serve in the FBI. If you come away exhausted, by the challenges & demands on those who serve in the FBI that is understandable. Many elected officials would give up or be dismissed if they had to meet the standards the the FBI. Yet, it’s importantly to understand, this book is not about perfection, nor is it a vanity project. It is about about core values, ethics, and the mission. After four years of the Trump administration, this book is a reassuring reminder of what the FBI means to our national security & the high bar it requires. That said, perfection isn’t attainable or measurable, the FBI is made up of human beings, after all. But, to use my late husband’s own personal mission statement in law enforcement, the FBI strives to “Provide the Utmost in Public Service” and believes in a core value of “Non Sibi Sed Cunctis” - Not for oneself, but for all. And that is what our nation needs: People & agencies committed to the mission & values that are at the core of The FBI Way. - Jan Meyer
