Danny Malooley hat es schwer. Ein Glückspilz war er noch nie, aber seitdem seine Frau vor etwas mehr als einem Jahr bei einem Unfall ums Leben gekommen ist, läuft gar nichts mehr glatt. Sein kleiner Sohn Will hat aufgehört zu sprechen, Danny verliert den Job, und als ihm auch noch sein Vermieter mit Rausschmiss droht, kauft er von seinem letzten Geld ein Pandakostüm, um als Tanzbär Geld zu verdienen. Doch tanzen kann er leider auch nicht ...
Ein Panda steht für Frieden und Freundschaft, aber so weit denkt Danny nicht. Das Kostüm ist ein Ladenhüter und billig, deshalb muss es als Verkleidung herhalten. Ein neuer Straßenkünstler ist geboren. Anfangs macht sich Danny vor allen Dingen lächerlich, aber als sich die Pole-Tänzerin Krystal seiner erbarmt und ihm Tanznachhilfe gibt, klingelt die Kasse so leidlich. Als Pandabär verkleidet beobachtet Danny eines Tages, wie sein kleiner Sohn Will von anderen Jungen schikaniert wird, und schreitet ein. Will fasst Vertrauen in den vermeintlich fremden Panda. Und er spricht.
