C.S. Forester
(1899-1966) è stato uno scrittore inglese, autore di numerosi romanzi di avventura con ambientazione militare sul mare. Il suo Horatio Hornblower, protagonista di una lunga serie di romanzi, è uno dei personaggi più acclamati della letteratura inglese – amatissimo anche da Sir Winston Churchill –, riuscendo a rivaleggiare in fama persino con il grande Sherlock Holmes. Molti dei suoi romanzi divennero film, ai quali lui stesso contribuì come sceneggiatore. Greyhound è uscito per la prima volta nel 1955 con il titolo The Good Shepherd: Forester volle scrivere un romanzo solo dopo aver studiato a fondo i documenti militari che riportavano della famosa battaglia navale.
