A través de la reconstrucció dels fets i d'un acurat retrat de l'assassí, l'autor fa una aproximació a la seva pròpia visió de la vellesa, del concepte de vida digna, i de la trista banalitat que sovint acompanya els crims més abjectes.
Toni Soler té el gran do de l'eficàcia narrativa. És substantiu, i en poques ratlles sap mostrar l'ànima de tots els personatges que entrecreuen aquesta història, també la seva, lligada a la Garrotxa, "el lloc -afirma- on més fàcilment connecto amb la idea del pas del temps".
