La gallarda by Isabel Custodio Book Summary
EnLa gallardase narran las correrías de una mujer que supo burlar durante años a la Santa Inquisición, a pesar de las múltiples transgresiones que efectuó durante el tiempo de sus fechorías de picaresca astucia... femenina.
Sobre el Libro de entretenimiento de la pícara Justina, escrito por López de Úbeda en el siglo xvi, se ha dicho que es una obra "amazacotada", un libro de "perverso gusto y de ningún juicio", que pasa por muy libre entre los que no lo han leído, pero también que "está lleno de imaginación y estilo" (Menéndez Pelayo) siendo a ratos "sabiamente obsceno". Es esto lo mismo que sucede con La gallarda, de Isabel Custodio. Los dos son particularmente únicos en su género: el primero, del siglo xvi, por ser una novela protagonizada por una mujer en la historia de la literatura picaresca española, y el segundo por tratar también sobre la picaresca de una mujer del siglo xvi, pero escrito ya en este siglo, como novela histórica. Las dos protagonistas son "amigas de chanzas, enredos y romerías", que relatan sin tapujos sus hazañas. Las dos son mozas que se presentan como "pícaras alegres" a quienes les ocurreque "retozan las risas en los dientes y el corazón en los ijares". Las aventuras que ambas relatan son más propias de una mujer de hoy que de entonces.
En La gallarda se cuenta el primer viaje desde México hacia las Filipinas, donde fueron diecinueve mujeres en búsqueda de un futuro matrimonio allende el mar, por carecer de dote: la conquistade Filipinas, el tornaviaje descubierto por el fraile vasco Urdaneta, esto es, el regreso a Acapulco, y la vuelta después a España.
