The Last Orphan by Gregg Hurwitz Book Summary

Evan Smoak returns in The Last Orphan, the next New York Times bestselling Orphan X thriller--when everything changes and everything is at risk.

As a child, Evan Smoak was plucked out of a group home, raised and trained as an off-the-books assassin for the government as part of the Orphan program. When he broke with the program and went deep underground, he left with a lot of secrets in his head that the government would do anything to make sure never got out.

When he remade himself as The Nowhere Man, dedicated to helping the most desperate in their times of trouble, Evan found himself slowly back on the government's radar. Having eliminated most of the Orphans in the program, the government will stop at nothing to eliminate the threat they see in Evan. But Orphan X has always been several steps ahead of his pursuers.

Until he makes one little mistake...

Now the President has him in her control and offers Evan a deal - eliminate a rich, powerful man she says is too dangerous to live and, in turn, she'll let Evan survive. But when Evan left the Program he swore to only use his skills against those who really deserve it. Now he has to decide what's more important - his principles or his life.

The Last Orphan. Certainly not one of the better ones. Overall the book was disappointing.

Tiresomely contrived. Quickly descends into cartoonish silliness with respect to both plot and character development. A sadly overwrought contortion of Hurwitz’s prior books.

Amazing. One of my favorites yet

Ehh. 3 Stars. Barely. Evidently, I just read my least favorite Orphan X novel. This one didn’t hit the spot. It was incomplete. It wasn’t nearly as fun as I have come to expect. Just disappointing. Sometimes, we/I expect way too much from our favorite authors and characters. This was one of those times. Mr. Hurwitz, I’m ready for the next one.

Very very. good. Great fun. My thanks Mr. Hurwitz.

Excellent. Couldn’t put it down.

Hurwitz reaches the next level!. One of his best. Gregg Hurwitz is hard to beat as a thriller writer! And he’s got great villains. He gives us excellent characters among the good guys as well. His masterpiece for me in this thriller was the birthday party for Josephine. It captured so many levels of unconditional love from the position of a parent/uncle/Guardian and from the other side of Niece/Ward/remarkably rebellious teenager. It communicates Profoundly at so many levels it can be called genius.

The Llast Orphan. Really weak. Boring. The villain was ridiculous. The long morality debates are tiresome. The woke influences are disappointing.

Pretty good. I thought this book was fine but it seemed short and unlike pretty much all of the other Orphan X books it seemed to only feature one problem for the protagonist to face instead of the two that form into one. It had all of the elegant writing that Greg Hurwitz executes in all of his books but the story just felt like it was missing something.

Not his best. I have read all the orphan X books and this is my least favorite.

Uwu. Fun!

Great story. Enjoyed the book, esp the dialogue between Evan and Joey. Exciting, emotional, tough and funny. I couldn’t give it five stars cuz it dint finish everything. I assume, at least hope, we get more of the story in the next book.

Another great read. Complex, thoughtful, great action - just a great, fun read.

Missed the mark. Loved every one thus far, but this one seemed thin with feeble adversaries. High marks for relationship dialogue, low ones for the action, and the arch villain was anything but.
