Super Mario Book Reviews
Super Mario by Jeff Ryan Book Summary
The story of Nintendo's rise and the beloved icon who made it possible.
Nintendo has continually set the standard for video-game innovation in America, starting in 1981 with a plucky hero who jumped over barrels to save a girl from an ape.
The saga of Mario, the portly plumber who became the most successful franchise in the history of gaming, has plot twists worthy of a video game. Jeff Ryan shares the story of how this quintessentially Japanese company found success in the American market. Lawsuits, Hollywood, die- hard fans, and face-offs with Sony and Microsoft are all part of the drama.
Find out about:
*Mario's eccentric yet brilliant creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, who was tapped for the job because was considered expendable.
*Minoru Arakawa, the son-in-law of Nintendo's imperious president, who bumbled his way to success. *The unexpected approach that allowed Nintendo to reinvent itself as the gaming system for the non-gamer, especially now with the Wii Even those who can't tell a Koopa from a Goomba will find this a fascinating story of striving, comeuppance, and redemption.

Jeff Ryan did a great job. Thank you.. An entertaining and enlightening read.
Interesting book but HORRIBLE writer. If you're interested in "how Japan conquered" the American video game industry, this book delivers. However, this is one of the most poorly written books I've read in a LONG while. It's apparent this author loved his thesaurus but hated his dictionary, because this book is full of high-level vocabulary that makes NO sense in the way it's used. Here's an example from halfway through the book: "“[Wario has] since been the Manicean star of over a dozen subsequent games. Many of these use his concupiscent invincibility as its key platforming mimetic.” Look up the definition of any of these four-syllable words and you can see that this sentence makes ZERO sense. For instance, "concupiscent" means "filled with lustful desire." I won't even get into how Manicean and "mimetic" are misused here. Seriously, did this book even have an editor? It's too bad, because this book's core story is very interesting, but the writing is horrendous!
Mario!. Very good. A must read:)
Great Read....but..... Why is this book so full of grammatical errors? I really enjoyed this book but there are so many editing issues that pull you away from the substance of the book. Aside from the errors, it's an interesting read, but very much on the surface of a much deeper story. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed this book, but I feel like the author skipped around and some of his information wasn't even entirely correct. I enjoyed this book but would recommend a book like, "Console Wars", if you want a more in depth look at Nintendo.
Great. Excellent book!
Very well written. I really enjoyed this. It covered a broad swath of history, and seemed extremely well researched.
Sonic is dumb. Sonic dont got this!! :-)
Business and Finance?. If people define this book as boring, they've obviously never played Mario Bros. before.
Super Mario. Very interesting book about Nintendo's rise as a video game and console producing company. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in video games and how they have become so popular over the last 30 years+.
Great book. If you get through the spelling error (there is only one time of this the Famicom one and that does not matter because it is just simple that one letter does not make it a bad book) and read the whole book and don’t give up like those losers in the bad reviews you will see how great this book really is.
Great book.. Nuff said.
Terrible. Full of mistakes.. He spends a full chapter calling the "Famicom" the "Famicon". I think that says it all. Obviously, very little research went into this. The first time I found a mistake (when the author states you have to push a button to use the hammer in Donkey Kong), I thought I may just have a bad memory. By the time I got to the part where the author states there is a different princess at the end of every castle in Super Mario Bros., I just gave up. You're better off reading about Nintendo on Wikipedia. Get "Game Over" instead. I wish there was a more recently written and thoroughly researched book on Nintendo history. This was not it.
For all gamers out there. I am pleased for this book to be my first book review. This book is great for all gamers and even talks about how Nintendo survived during when Xbox and play station even talks about some never real eased games at moments. I am almost finished with the book and I think all gamers should but this awesomely detailed book! \😄/ "READ THIS BOOK!" ^ / \
What I think. I really liked this book. Explained how Nintendo made MARIO and why they did. Please write another one about Mario. Just mario
Super Awesome!. A surprisingly interesting history that left me both nostalgic, and feeling like an uber nerd. The authors writing style is immensely engaging and enjoyable. A must read!
