Deceived by Paul S. Kemp Book Summary

The second novel set in the Old Republic era and based on the massively multiplayer online game Star Wars®: The Old Republic™ ramps up the action and brings readers face-to-face for the first time with a Sith warrior to rival the most sinister of the Order’s Dark Lords—Darth Malgus, the mysterious, masked Sith of the wildly popular “Deceived” and “Hope” game trailers.

Malgus brought down the Jedi Temple on Coruscant in a brutal assault that shocked the galaxy. But if war crowned him the darkest of Sith heroes, peace would transform him into something far more heinous—something Malgus would never want to be, but cannot stop, any more than he can stop the rogue Jedi fast approaching.

Her name is Aryn Leneer—and the lone Knight that Malgus cut down in the fierce battle for the Jedi Temple was her Master. And now she’s going to find out what happened to him, even if it means breaking every rule in the book.

Features a bonus section following the novel that includes a primer on the Star Wars expanded universe, and over half a dozen excerpts from some of the most popular Star Wars books of the last thirty years!

Loved it!!. Very thrilling, first Star Wars book, I'm now hooked.

Slow and drawn out, but great epilogue. As compared to “Revan” the book is much slower with spurts of predictable action and no great suspense. Very surface level until the epilogue which I give 5 stars. Fantastic epilogue that ties much together and gives wonderful insight into Malgus and his motivation. Loved the Epilogue so much that’s it’s the best one I’ve read in sci fi, seriously.

Non-stop action. The book started strong and road that wave of action the entire time. It kept the cast small and the planets minimal and it really let the focus stay on the story, not trying to show off all these planets and characters we’ve never heard of. Probably my favorite Legends book I’ve read so far. Must read!!!!

Great read. Terrific

Awesome!!!!. Great character development and Malgus is a very complicated sith! I want moreeee!!!!!

Favorite. This book has to be my favorite so far and I am reading chronologically except for cross current which I accidentally read. Everything about this book is amazing the sith interactions the story behind Eldon Ax and the fights were imaged gracefully. Great twist great set I recommend this book 100%.

Anticlimactic. This book built up to and ending about to chapters long. This left me unsatisfied and wanting to know more about what happened after. I do not expect to find out anything more as this book did not cover anything that was in the first book. Over all I think this book is a good read I do love the lore. Just a slightly unsatisfied feeling at the end!

Wow. That was amazing I don’t have words for it

Excellent e-read. Good story line, fast read. Fair price (albeit price should be at paperback or lower). KH

Incredible and beautifully written. Kemp's style of writing keeps the reader engaged and on the edge of their seat through this entire book. One of the best Star Wars books and stories I've ever read. His action scenes incredibly detailed and exciting. I can't wait to read more of his books. Well done.

Good book. I’m a Star Wars junky, it was a good easy read. Kept me enthralled, I read it in 3 days.

Amazing. This is the first star wars book I've ever read and I really like it. It has a great story, it connects you to the characters and it's an easy read. I'm going to get another book from the old republic era when I'm done with it. Plus I can't wait for the game to come out!!!

Wow. Incredible book. Well written, and the way Kemp portrays the emotions and feelings of the characters is second to none. Also, his narration of combat and fight scenes paint a perfect picture in my mind. A MUST READ FOR ANY SCI-FI FAN! P.S.- I can't wait for the game

Dramatic and Grounded (a spoiler-free review). Within the setting of the galaxy-spanning conflict engineered for BioWare’s massive online multiplayer game, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Deceived is a well-told and personal struggle for survival and identity. It fleshes out the characters and events surrounding the shocking video game trailer of the same name, where the Sith Empire ransacks the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. It succeeds in keeping the story grounded through holding to a limited cast of characters, all of whom are unique. The story’s Jedi is far from what one might expect. The primary Sith pictured on the cover, Darth Malgus, stands apart from the hoard of scowling villains wielding red sabers who tend to occupy and strive to conquer the galaxy. And right in the midst of the clash between dark and light is a solder/smuggler with his own complexities. Deceived, at its best, is a study in the grey area in between right and wrong. The novel stands alone without much knowledge of the Old Republic’s particular setting. A reader uninterested in playing the video game can enjoy this one. There’s little doubt that this book would serve as a good primer and companion piece to the online gaming experience, but as a story it is good nevertheless. It’s good, but far from perfect. In particular, Kemp’s writing never stands out as particularly impressive. His use of language tells the story and gets the job done. Deceived was worth the money. It’s rare for a single novel to develop its core characters as quickly as this. It’s far from the top of the list of must-read Star Wars books, but it does deserve a place on at least a similar list of books worth the reading experience.

A good read for Star Wars fans. It stuck to its guns, really latched onto the meat of the story that it was trying to tell, and I was hooked from the first page. My only gripe is that it takes the classical viewpoints switching of Star Wars to a new extreme, where it feels like it’s trying to tell three different stories at once.

Fantasic. This book was extremely enjoyable and is hard to put down With a cast of characters you end up caring about

A wonderful edition to The Old Republic series. Star Wars The Old Republic: Deceived is one of the few Star Wars novels that jumps right into the action and that captures the readers attention straight from page one. I was immediately mesmerized by the feel of the book. It's full of great new characters, most of which are recognizable from the Old Republic E3 game trailers. There are excellent battles and action sequences but there's also some great quieter moments that give the story a really great feel. I would highly recommend this book to any Star Wars fan.

The Best!. The book is amazing and Darth Malgus rocks! A bit overpriced but it's worth it!

Not bad.. I love Revan he is crucial to KOTOR

Favorite Star Wars book. So good. I picked the book up and kept reading until I finished it. Be warned, it’s that good.

Awesome book. I own many Star Wars books and this one delivers. Definitely worth a buy and a read

Great book. What a great book, I couldn't put it down the hole time I was reading it and when I did I was thinking about what could happen to the characters. Great read if you're getting ready to play swtor, or if you're a sw fan.

Awesome!. Neva bought for mobile but I bought it a year ago for hardcover... Hahahaha...

Amazing!!!!!!!!. This is one of those books that take u to galaxy far far away... I mean, you will start to read and after the first four pages time no longer exists. I made it to chapter 5 during my first read. I started @ 1130 pm when the book was released and was angry with my self for getting sleepy. It has everything u need in it.
