ROG. Read this one first!

The Rise.... The book was ok. It was action-packed, but the story line seemed to jump around. I know how this links up with the comic, because I have read them, but anyone who is unfamiliar will not see any relation to anything in the TV show. It is important to understand that this a a completely different story that takes place at the same time that Rick and his posse are going through their ordeals.

Great Read!. Rise of the Governor is so gripping and well written, it almost makes me wish that the entire Walking Dead series had been created as a series of novels rather than graphic novels. Couldn't put it down and can't wait for the sequel coming in October 2012.

Hard to stop reading. Loved it. The character build-up done to explain how the Governor came to be was masterful.

Awesome. This book is great from beginning to end. So many great parts. All the characters are well developed. The arc of the governor is baffling. I never would of thought he came from such a scared guy, never killing anything, to where he ends up. This is a fantastic story.

Amazing Backstory. This is a must read for the fans of the walking dead comic and/or TV series. It helps explain how Philip Blake became the governor. Awesome story that always keeps you on your toes!

Great book. I had a feeling about half through. No spoilers here. I could hardly put it down. Great read for those who like The Walking Dead show and comics.

Great Story, Bad Similes. I have been a huge fan of the whole Walking Dead genre for quite some time. I love the comics, I enjoy the show, and I am thrilled about the game from Telltale. This new addition of media to the genre however, doesn't quite show that well the intricate characterization that is greatly valued in this Walking Dead series. Reading this book was a little frustrating due to the amount of excessive jumping from one scene to another with. And the similes chosen were often to far stretched and would pull me out of the story occasionally. Other than that the the book was great and I enjoyed it a lot. Would definitely suggest it to any walking dead fan.

Such a good story. With season 3 of the walking dead approaching, this is an excellent read to learn about The Governors background. It was an amazing book that kept me wanting to read more and more.

Great Read. This was a great read for a zombie fan. However, the technical editing of the book is poor. Without spoiling the book, household nail guns don't typically shoot six inch nails, the Harley scene is not realistic, and there are several other weapons and mechanical technicalities that just don't add up in the least bit. "The Devil is in the details!" I hope they do a better job with researching and editing in the sequel!

Very cool!. It occurred to me after reading a bunch of the comics... The TV show is just better. More detail in the storylines, more flesh to the characters etc... Now this book is great. Kirkman takes his Gov and gives us the whole backstory in a novel format that is much more comprehensive than some comics.. Great job. Gonna buy the next one now..

Not great. Without the the imagery of the comics, the narrative falls apart. I have to be honest, I don't find this book particularly well written. In some cases, it is down right pedestrian. While I appreciate a good back story, this one just did not sit well with me. Frankly, I just don't buy the eventual charecter evolution. No, this book needed the spark of a more creative writer to convey the metamorphosis of the charecters in a more convincing way.

Amazing. That was one of the best zombie novels I have ever read that was the best 10 dollars I ever spent.

Fantastic. Love all things Kirkman! He has brought a new seriousness to the zombie sub-genre while still keeping to classic zombie kills.

A masterpiece!. I read this book in three day. The authors writing style is exceptional.

Great read for walking dead graphic novel fans. What a great story, and a fantastic twist at the end. I read the first 15 volumes of the graphic novels before reading this (which I highly recommend before reading this novel) great piece of zombie horror. I can't stress enough how important it is to read the graphic novels first if you really want to in joy this story and understand what I mean by " twist at the end".

Rise of The Govenor. I do not read , I mean anything but the reader bar at the bottom of the news channel .... I finished the book in a matter of a few weeks which might be nothing to you Bookworms but Amazing to Me ! This book and the style in which it has been written completely had me enticed ! Could not put it down when I had the chance to read !

Awesome!!!!. As a fan of AMC's The Walking Dead, I can honestly say The Governor is one of my favorite characters. Seeing how this character became the monster he is was so enlightening, and I am counting down to the last book in the trilogy, The Fall of the Governor. Here's hoping Jay and Robert do more prequels. I would love to learn more about Rick, Michonne, etc.

The Walking Dead. I liked this book, but resented the use of the "R" word in a derogatory manner. I am a mother of a child with Down Syndrome and find that word offensive. I would think any parent would.

Great read. After reading this it makes me think that the comics should have been a series of novels.

Good read. The Governor, one of the best and most frightening villains to grace the pages of any medium, was an individual who left a lot of questions unanswered when he was brought to life in The Walking Dead comic. Who was he? Where did he come from? Was he always the evil, sadistic mastermind as portrayed or did he come from humble beginnings? What drove him to his maniacal and psychopathic transformation? The answers, as clearly revealed in this book, are heart wrenching as his story is laid out in gory detail through a macabre tale of constant loss and struggle. You are left asking the question how you would respond under similar circumstances, and if you would suffer the same fate. As in The Walking Dead comic and TV series, the 'biters' are secondary to the human (living, that is) drama that unfolds involving the survivors and their struggle to retain a semblance of their humanity, or, as in the case of the Governor, to force his twisted vision on his weak willed subordinates. The walking dead are merely a vehicle to flesh out that story. This book can be read as a stand alone novel (and is a great story as such), but if you truly want to get the most out of it I strongly suggest you read The Walking Dead through the story arc until the Governor is introduced. You won't be disappointed.

Good but left a little on the table. It was a good overall story but when it ended it left something to be desired

A Little disappointing. The book was OK. Somewhat slow at times. Predictable. The "lead" character is a dimwit, which is very frustrating. The writing is barely passable. Still, the underlying story is worthwhile if not well executed.

Can't wait. For the next book! Let's go boys!

WOW!. All I can say is that this book twists you as if you are watching the series. Here is a glimpse of how the governor came to be that will leave you reeling with a "whaaaat?!" Great book especially if you are a Walking Dead fan!

An interesting, deep look into the most hated Walking Dead character.. One of the best reads I've had in a while. Being a big fan of the comics and getting a nice look at the background of the Governor is a welcomed history. I would like to see more of how he becomes as evil as he does, but this will definitely do for now. Thank you Robert Kirkman. \m/

AHHH YEAH!!!!!. Absolutely fantastic! This will leave you horrified, stunned, teary eyed and wanting more. There are many twists and turns and an ending that is perfect!

Link to the series. To people asking if it's linked to the tv show. Yes it will be but the show isn't far enough. In the comic books they find and live in the prison that appeared at the last episode of season 2. They soon find out that there is a secure town called Woodbury run by "the governor" this book is an expansion on his character development and how he became insane. The next season of the tv show is gonna be crazy intense with drama and action.

Good but confusing. I know Phillip went crazy but how does his brother become the crazy governor? Does he morph into this crazy combination of brothers.

Eh. It was ok but nothing great. Stick to the comics.

The rise of the Governer. This book is a must read for any walking dead fan. Any fan of the books will love this book. It's a great story about survival during the early days of the zombie apocalypse.

A great story that stands on it's own.. Very well written, as entertaining as the comic book, the story of the Governer is fasinating from the first chapter to the last. He is one of those characters you love to hate and this book will give you even more reasons to do so. With an twist ending that took me by suprise, i highly recommend this book to all fans of the comic book and the tv series.
