The Dovekeepers. A beautifully written quartet of interwoven stories about four women in ancient Judea whose destinies were infinitely bound together. For women of our time, they exemplify what it means to truly be your own person, stand in your truth and embrace your unique gifts. A tale of strength, betrayal and courage interlaced with fierce loyalty and love. I couldn't put it down once I began reading and will pick it up again and again to immerse myself in the pure poetry of the story and the words used to tell it.

Still relevant in the conflicts the Jewish people face today. This book was a wonderful story. I especially enjoy books based on true events. Although it was a long story, it was full of vivid description and detail that made it come alive. I truly enjoyed reading it. If you are at all interested in ancient Biblical history and/or how it is relevant to what is happening in the Middle East today, you will devour this book and reflect long and thoughtfully what the author was sharing with us. Most of the history we have today is told from a masculine point of view. It is refreshing to read and feel history from the feminine side.

Bad. Usually I love historical fiction (especially biblical) but I could not get through this.

TO SEE WHERE THE DOVES LIVED IN MASADA. When I first read The Dove Keeper the description of Masada stayed with me. Being part of a Messianic community I had the opportunity to go to Israel. One of our day trips was Masada. As our guide walked with us pointing out areas I stopped in front of what was the Dove quarters and was frozen. A friend asked if I was having an ancient memory. Said I didn’t know and then remembered the book I read in 2011, Dove Keeper. Thank you for this book.

Excellent characters and story. This book was very good. It dragged at times and at times, I skipped over parts. The characters were incredibly described and I feel as though I know them. Had to read it to the end because I couldn't guess the twists and evolving relationships. I am very glad I read this book and like others, will miss the characters in this novel.

The Dovekeepers. Fantastic book! I just returned from Israel and spent an entire afternoon at Masada. I stood in the dove coves and this book so eloquently depicted this struggle and life inside the mighty Masada. Recommend highly!

Great, historical read!. I've always remembered my Bibilical studies by Ray Vanderlann as fascinating especially when he shared about Masada. When I came across this book, the title alone piqued my interest. Alice Hoffman uses the story of Masada's only survivors as her foundation to weave a story of bravery, love, fierce passion, loyalty and the will to live no matter the circumstances. Her story-telling provides you a glimpse into history of the Jewish sects and Romans as well as the beauty of Masada created by King Herod. Truly a great read for anyone who is history lover!

Great Read. I have read many other novels by Alice Hoffman and have enjoyed them. This novel was very different from her other works. I enjoy reading historical fiction and this was a very good example of the genre. As most of her other works, Ms. Hoffman told the story from women's viewpoint. Her four major characters were well drawn. As a reader, you were eager to follow them as they struggled to make their way in a challenging time. One of Hoffman's best novels.

The Dovekeepers. Absolutely loved this book. I found myself thinking about the tragic lives of the characters throughout my day... Couldn't wait to get home to read more. Beautifully written, sad but empowering, truly one of the best books I have read in a very long time.

The Dovekeepers. Great read in a historical setting. It made me want to see these places for myself someday.

The Dovekeepers. Extraordinary! Characters were so finely drawn l will miss them for a long time. This is a book to enjoy for the first read and to chew slowly and savor for each additional read. Well written and a treat for the senses; spicy, sweet, pungent and aromatic. I highly recommend this fascinating, well researched, epic story of women, religion, magic, love and salvation.

Challenging and Rewarding. I love books like this and The Red Tent, that blend history with biblical stories told from the oft-overlooked women's perspective. While many of this genre are fairly easy reads, Alice Hoffman's style tends to be more literary than most. But that shouldn't be a deterrent from this fully realized story. In my case it meant I needed to slow down and read a bit more carefully in order to appreciate and savor the nuances of the tale.

The Dovekeepers. I can't remeber the last time I enjoyed a book this much. It is well written and very moving. It is a book I could re-read-something I almost never do. Buy the book, you will not regret it.

Historical novels may not be your thing, but this is one that could change your mind. You will care about the characters long before you begin to consider the history they inhabit, and later you will realize that your own humanity is reflected in this caring and wonderful historical meditation and remembrance.

Deeply Moving. This is a story based on historical information about a tremendous act of courage and religious faith. It reflects the strength of a people in their commitment to their beliefs. It is an enduring tale of the capabilities of humanity and limitless love. An inspiring read!
