The true story of Donna Ford, who between the ages of five and eleven was abused by her stepmother Helen. Labelled 'the bastard', the 'little witch' and 'the evil one'; beaten, isolated and afraid to even look at her own reflection, this beautiful little child was told she was lucky to be the victim of abuse - abuse which began as physical and mental, but progressed to the most appalling sexual attacks.
Despite an horrendous early life, Donna is now a successful artist and mother of three with an enormous enthusiasm and an optimism which completely belies her experiences.
In 2003, Donna watched as her stepmother was found guilty of 'procuring a minor' for sexual abuse and sentenced to two years in prison.
Beautifully written and savagely honest, The Step Child is Donna's story. It is an inspiring tribute to the resilience of the human spirit.

The step child. It's absolutely incredible that in this day and age such atrocities can and do happen. My heart went out to you as I was reading your story and I cried through quite a lot of it. I am so glad that you have managed to find some peace and that you can finally be happy.
Moving. This book has bought me to realise what horrors are actually out there and how crafty some people can be to hide it all away in a little house or flat but if you read this Donna I am 12yrs old and I bought the actuall book and it was amazing and very moving for me I am extremely glad that you finally got justice and your not the witch Helen is......
The step child. Donna ford! Wow what an inspiration! I have been considering for some time now whether to go into a career where as I can help children! This book has made that decision for me!! Amazing book, and how brave u were to tell ur story! Hard as it may have been!
Moving. This book is truly moving. I am so glad Helen was punished but her sentence was not long enough in my eyes. She should have got at least the same jail time as the torture she put you all through. I'd really like to know what happened to Simon, Frances and the other children in life?
