This is an old, 1930s-era Edition. Potential buyers should be warned. This seems to be a very old edition. I couldn't find out just when it came out from WorldCat. I did discover that the 11th edition came out in 1949. As the 9th edition, this one must date from the 1930s, making it nearly worthless as a reference work. It'd be marvelous if the University of Chicago would come out with a digital version of the current 16th edition of this vital reference. Look ups would be quicker and the text easier to read. My eyes strain on the tiny type of my 15th edition. For those who prefer digital to print, there is an online version of the current edition available by subscription from the publisher for $35/year. Some college and public libraries may also offer access for free. Even better would be an iOS app based on the latest content but with features that an ebook couldn't offer. Some talented developer should contact the UofC press and suggest a collaboration.

Out of Date and Next to Useless. Wish I had read the reviews before purchasing it! I would have never bought it if I had. I cannot understand why U of Chi shames itself by providing obsolete digital content!

Old version from 1930 - caveat emptor. Everyone that was duped / assumed this was current and updated should ask Apple for a refund. If you expected to get the 9th edition and happily paid for this - that’s awesome. This listing seems designed to trap people into buying a very not current version of an essential reference work. Shame on Apple for not curating their store metadata better. The listing is correct technically, but wrong culturally. We should expect better like a large warning - “you probably want another version of this book or another vendor” if Apple can’t sell the current version of this book.

Old edition. The current edition is the 16th. Too bad it does not seem to be available digitally yet.
