During a break from school, the boys set out for the Appalachian Trail on a quest for a great black bear. As Jack and Early travel deeper into the mountains, they meet peculiar and dangerous characters, and they make some shocking discoveries. But their adventure is only just beginning. Will Jack’s and Early’s friendship last the journey? Can the boys make it home alive?

Navigating Early. Spectacular! A beautifully written story of true friendship, hope, wonder and adventure. Must read.
Wonderful. I purchased this ebook for my 6th grade son to read. It was on my phone and I was bored so I started it. I could NOT stop. Vanderpool's story telling is fabulous. There are so many small stories woven within this work, yet it is not fragmented. I did not feel like I had to shift gears to move from Pi's story to Early and Jack's story, or Gunnar's, or MacScott's, or Marvin's. It is choreographed like a broadway musical (or perhaps more appropriately Cirque du Soleil), making all those wonderful parts into an even better whole. It is considered a book for young readers, which is a shame because so many "old" readers will miss it. Just because a book doesn't contain foul language, graphic sex or aberrant behavior does not mean it will not equally fascinate mainstream adults. I love it. For adults. And for young readers.
Most boring book EVER!!!. I had to read it for school...worst book ever it never caught my attention...
Another classic!. As a teacher, I am constantly looking for quality literature to share with my class. After falling in love with Abilene Tucker in Moon Over Manifest, I began using that book in my class. Now I read Navigating Early to my class. A fantastic book to read aloud!
Just woah. This was an summer assignment in for my preap reading class and this book was so much better than expected all my frands said it was fab so I read it . This is one of those books that you can't stop reading and when you finish you actually get a lesson in the end . P.s. I like the epilogue>.<
