Le Pirate by Sir Walter Scott Book Summary
L’histoire se déroule dans les îles Shetland au début du XVIIIe siècle. Magnus Troil, vieil homme respectable, y vit paisiblement avec ses deux filles, Minna et Brenda. Il a loué à Basil Mertoun et à son fils Mordaunt, un château retiré du village. Mordaunt côtoie depuis son adolescence les deux jeunes filles sans pour autant en préférer une. Un jour de tempête, il sauve un naufragé nommé Cleveland qu’il envoie en convalescence chez le vieil homme. Minna et Cleveland tombent amoureux. Magnus, sur la base d'une méchante rumeur propagée par Cleveland, bannit Mordaunt de sa demeure. Mais Brenda n'y croit pas et, en l'absence du jeune homme, réalise qu'elle l'aime. Une parente du vieil homme a un comportement étrange, qui évoque le surnaturel. Quel secret cache-t-elle ? Qui est réellement ce Cleveland ?...
