Motivation gehört mit zu den Aufgaben von Führungskräften. Es besteht jedoch das Problem, dass deren Beobachtung, Analyse und Einschätzung von Mitarbeitern und ihre Reaktion auf bestimmtes Mitarbeiterverhalten eine intensive Beschäftigung mit der Materie erfordern. Ist dieses Verständnis nicht vorhanden besteht die Gefahr, dass die Einschätzung der Führungskraft nicht frei ist von Unterstellungen, von Annahmen die auch vom eigenen Menschenbild abhängig sind, und von eigenen Erfahrungen abhängt. Die Führung als Grundlage des Miteinanders kann sich sowohl positiv als auch negativ auf das Wohlbefinden der Mitarbeiter auswirken. Folglich lässt sich durch eine gute Führung besser motivieren. Zudem bringen ähnliche Motive bei verschiedenen Menschen unterschiedliches Verhalten hervor und hinter ähnlichem Verhalten können bei verschiedenen Menschen durchaus unterschiedliche Motive wirken. Wenn Motivation untersucht wird, wird folglich viel spekuliert bzw. gedanklich konstruiert. Innerhalb dieser Arbeit sollen verschiedene Motivationstheorien vorgestellt und mit einem Praxismodell verknüpft werden.
