Az auschwitz–birkenaui koncentrációs táborban huszonöt, többségében szlovák és magyar származású zsidó nő elegáns ruhákat varrt a náci elit asszonyai és lányai számára. A varroda sokáig a szögesdróttal körbezárt rettenetes világ közvetlen szomszédságában, a táborparancsnok villájában működött. Az idilli kert, a takaros szobák, a finom anyagok és a különleges szabásminták mind-mind éles kontrasztban álltak azzal, hogy az itt dolgozó varrónők, nyomorúságos ellátás és kíméletlen bánásmód mellett, valójában az életükért varrtak.
