Ambientato a Malaga nell’XI secolo, ‘Il Pirata’ è il secondo libro nella trilogia della Città Dei Sogni. In questo eccitante romanzo storico dal ritmo incalzante, il lettore è portato nel mondo medievale di mercanti e marinai in viaggio lungo la costa occidentale del Mar Mediterraneo, dove i pirati effettuano scorribande e disseminano il terrore.
Un mattino presto, l’ambizioso capitano pirata al-Awar, effettua una fulminea incursione presso il cantiere navale di Malaga e rapisce Bakr, il mastro carpentiere, oltre a due dei suoi lavoratori. Prima che qualcuno possa fare qualcosa al riguardo, li portano via. Nessuno ha idea del perché i pirati li abbiano rapiti o di dove li stiano portando, ma tutti sono d’accordo che davanti a loro si prospettano solo due possibilità: morte o schiavitù.
Quando Aisha, moglie di Bakr, apprende la notizia, rimane fortemente addolorata, ma si rifiuta di ascoltare chi le dice che ci sono poche speranze di ritrovare vivo suo marito. La giovane donna è invece determinata a scoprire dove i pirati lo abbiano portato. Con l’intero Mediterraneo dove poterli nascondere, trovare gli uomini scomparsi sembra un compito impossibile, ma Aisha si rifiuta di rinunciare e motiva la sua famiglia e i loro amici a cercare i rapiti.
Al centro di questo romanzo c’è la tenera storia d’amore tra Aisha e Bakr e i profondi sentimenti che nutrono l’uno per l’altro. È il pensiero della sua amata ad aiutare il maestro d’ascia rapito a mantenere viva la speranza durante la prigionia, nonostante le scarse probabilità di riuscire a fare ritorno a casa e rivedere la propria famiglia. Ed è l’amore della giovane per il marito che le da la forza di non abbandonare mai la speranza di riuscire a ritrovarlo e riportarlo a casa.
