Nos relatos de Cinderela, por exemplo, as filhas da madrasta decepam o dedão e parte do calcanhar para tentar calçar o sapatinho, situação amenizada nas modernas narrativas, em que as moças apenas se esforçam para que o calçado sirva no pé. Monteiro Lobato traduziu os contos para os leitores brasileiros preservando a essência dos textos originais.
