Esta obra propone una auténtica "revolución copernicana" en psicoterapia. Surge de la fertilidad creadora y permanente innovación teórica y clínica de la escuela de Palo Alto (California), conocida por las interesantes obras de Paul Watzlawick.
La aproximación estratégica a la psicoterapia, esto es, la moderna evolución de la terapia sistémica en simbiosis con la hipnoterapia de Milton Erickson, representa realmente un perspectiva revolucionaria respecto de las formas convencionales de intervención psicoterapéutica. Se trata de un nuevo modelo teórico y operativo para la solución, en un período de tiempo breve, de los problemas del individuo, de la pareja y de la familia, aplicable también a contextos interpersonales más amplios, y no sólo clínicos (angustias, miedos, fobias... que paralizan el rendimiento diario).
Para ganar las "jugadas", se recurre a técnicas refinadas de sugestión, paradojas y estrategias comportamentales que sortean la resistencia al cambio del paciente, llevándolo a percibir la realidad de un modo nuevo y a obrar, en consecuencia, de una manera funcionalmente correcta.
