Informative and Easy-to-Read. A great start toward understanding the oil and natural gas industries. Beginning with a detailed history of oil discovery and how it literally has shapes the world we live in today – laws, foreign policies, products we consume, etc. – this book explains everything from how oil is created under the earth’s mantle to the actual drilling and refining processes simply and brilliantly. What I most appreciated was the connection between today’s laws and history’s incidents. This book takes a definite “home-soil” approach, emphasizing the US markets. And while the book won’t tell you exactly what companies to invest in, it will give you a ton of information for you to make a wise choice. Figures, charts, and graphs add to the easy-to-understand writing. A must for any investor’s library!

While it is a bit of a long read, many will find that the reading comes easy, and that you are enjoying the experience immensely.

Knowing The Basics. This was a book that as a woman, it intrigued me to read to read further. As I continued to read, it felt like i was back in the college library gathering information for a mid term exam or something. Everything is laid out in front of you and you need to do is reach out and grab it. This is a great book to use in the future when the time comes to take advantage of this particular industry.

Really enjoyable and informative. The author has managed to turn a pretty dull subject in a very interesting read. I am a novice in both investments and the industry of oil and gas, but I have been captiated by this book after reading a few paragraphs. Chris Termeer presents an overviow of oil and gas extraction throughout history and helps you understand by the means of various diagrams and pictures. I believe that this is an informative book for both novice and expert investors because it brings a whole new point of view on thi industry. We both love it!. I bought this book for my husband to read. However, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who, is looking to learn as much as they can about investing in the gas and oil industry. My husband talked, and talked about this read long enough I had to read it. This book is an interesting eighteen chapters of invaluable information. To a degree, that's a fair assumption, but the reality is the book offers an abundance of information in a conversational style. The foundation of the book centers around the Warren Buffet quote, 'not to invest in a business you can't understand.' From the creation of Vaseline to the first antitrust lawsuit to radiometrics, the book breaks down the oil and gas industry into bite-size, digestible pieces of nutritional information.

Interesting HIstory. Termeer's book is very educational, especially if you are clueless about the oil and gas industry, as I was. I originally decided to read this book because I knew very little about the oil and gas industry, but as I read, I became more interested in learning what I could in order to make informed investing decisions. I enjoyed learning how the industry actually came to be, and about the process of it all--extraction, transportation...and about investing. Termeer's explanations of the industry trends, in terms of both investment and future need, was very enlightening. Anyone who has an interest in the industry should pick up a copy.

Super informative!. At first, this book felt like just another one of my textbooks - boring and useless and kind of long. However, upon continuing, I realized that it is a easy read and interesting if you are into oil and gas. The book was relatable considering the fact that there were personal examples to counter the technical aspects here. The language is not all too exclusive and there is great advice throughout the book as well as vast material covering each aspect. Definitely worth it if you want more information.

Great History. I think what intrested me the most about this book was the history of the industory. Chris Termeer did a fantastic job writing about the oil industry and providing a guide for potentinal investors. He included graphs and pictures which kept me intrested. I have found myself thumbing through the pages just to read the quotes that he choose to inclued at the begining of each chapter. I can't say enough about Chris Termeer as a write. he is a magnificant job!

A great read even for the uninformed. I highly recommend this book for the novice and the informed alike. He covers everything from how and why natural oil comes about, how it is refined as well as the drilling and processing procedure. Mostly due to his writing style, Termeer makes a complex subject both an interesting and understandable read. I would definitely recommend this book to my friends. Quite a Surprise. My family has been in the oil business for over 50 years, but I learned more about the industry in this book than I have ever learned at my father's knee. The writing is basic, yet extremely informative, and delivered in such a way as not to be intimidating to the newcomer to this subject. I would reccomend this book to anyone who is interested in adding oil and gas to her invetsment portfolio, since understanding the history and fundamentals of any subject goes a long way in assisting the reader to make sound informed judgment calls. At first glance I thought that this might just be a dry, "yawn-er" of a textbook, but, in fact, it is a compilation of history and information that brings the reader up-to-date on a, sometimes, complicated topic.

Interesting and informative. I figured this would be dull reading. I was wrong it is not in the least bit dull. It gives a very interesting account of the history of the oil and gas industry. I was amazed at all the stuff I didn't know. It also laid out some interesting options for investing. The author seems to be well informed and has written a book that is easy to read and understand.

Very Informative!. I recently inherited a bit of money, and I wanted to get some information on different industries before I decided where to invest the inheritance. I bought this book looking for an in depth look at the oil and gas industry, and was not disappointed. Not only does this book go into great detail regarding the industry's standards and practices today, it gives a great deal of history of the industry, which I found immensely interesting. I actually expected this to be a bit of a dry read, given the subject matter, but that really wasn't the case. Enjoyable to Read Info. I have tried to read books like this before and every time I ended up putting it down and leaving. I'm thankful to say this one was completely different. Once I started reading the first chapter I was amazed at how much I enjoyed it and how easy it was to read and understand. I loved the history blurbs about Greek Fire and Vaseline, they were an amazing hook and I was able to dive right in. When it does get a little 'letters and numbers' Termeer does it in a way that is understandable and you don't get frustrated with all the technical talk. I would defiantly recommend this book and I recommend it to anyone out there with an interest or a beginning interest in the subject.
