Becoming Rain by K.A. Tucker Book Summary

The second novel in nationally bestselling author K.A. Tucker’s breathtaking romantic suspense series, about an undercover detective who is dangerously drawn to her target.

Luke Boone doesn't know exactly what his uncle Rust is involved in but he wants in on it—the cars, the money, the women. And it looks like he's finally getting his wish. When Rust hands him the managerial keys to the garage, they come with a second set—one that opens up the door to tons of cash and opportunity. Though it's not exactly legal, Luke's never been one to worry about that sort of thing. Especially when it puts him behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 and onto the radar of gorgeous socialite named Rain.

Clara Bertelli is at the top of her game—at only twenty-six years old, she's one of the most successful undercover officers in the Washington, DC, major crime unit, and she's just been handed a case that could catapult her career and expose one of the West coast's most notorious car theft rings. But, in order to do it, she'll need to go deep undercover as Rain Martines. Her target? The twenty-four-year-old nephew of a key player who appears ready to follow in his uncle's footsteps.

As Clara drifts deeper into the luxurious lifestyle of Rain, and further into the arms of her very attractive and charming target, the lines between right and wrong start to blur, making her wonder if she'll be able to leave it all behind. Or if she'll even want to.

Detective story where lines are crossed between the agent and the target.. Clara and Luke's POV. I feel a sense of déjà vu. I'm reminded of the movie "Fast and Furious" when Brian was undercover hoping to discover who was stealing cars. The only difference is the undercover agent is female. I'm also reminded of the movie,"Stake Out". When that agent fell for the target. Finally, This reminds me of the James Patterson series involving a woman agent. This is the first book I've read by KA Tucker. I thought the storyline was great. The story moved along at a great pace. There were a lot of characters to keep track of but when the story entails car thieves it's no surprise to have many involved. It's a refreshing change from what I typically read. Clara is an undercover agent working to gain information on Luke. Luke has been challenging for Clara to gain his attention. All her tactics at gaining his attention leave you laughing. Clara is pretending to be a wealthy socialite for the sake of attracting the attention of Luke who tends to like sexy high maintenance women. Rain is granted access to the opulent homes of the wealthy men Rust does business with. All the while Luke is under the impression that Rain is familiar and comfortable in this lifestyle when in reality this is all new to her. Rain is seeing a grand scale of lifestyle so unfamiliar to what she is used to. Luke was raised by Rust and Rust treats him as a son. Rust spoils Luke with fast cars, money, and a million dollar home. Luke wants to earn the same living as Rust. Rust becomes someone Luke trusts and admires. Luke is blinded by the opulent lifestyle. Greed is clouding his judgment. It takes a Rain to set him straight. Luke has this draw to Rain that she finds herself crossing the line with him. Rain struggles to sort out if what the FBI believes about Luke is true or if what she learns is the truth. It's definitely a story to get lost in. It's movie worthy material. I love the dynamic situation between them. Love has no boundaries or barriers. We have a cop falling for a criminal. The cop trying to save the bad guy. The cop crossing lines between right and wrong. The cop incriminating herself for the better good of a good guy led down and influenced by people who he trusted. The story seems so plausible. It's easy to get lost in the characters lives. Luke is easy to like and even with Clara working undercover she still has an easy going appeal to her. Underneath the cop exterior she is still a woman affected by an attractive man. The heart wants what the heart wants.

Worth it!. I never thought this book would overpass my love for Jesse and Water and I was wrong, this might be my best read yet!

Luke!!!. We met Luke Boone in Burying Water but Becoming Rain features Luke in a whole new light. Throughout this read, I had to keep reminding myself this was a KA Tucker book. If this is your first Tucker read, I highly recommend starting with Burying Water. If this isn't your first Tucker read, then you are already aware of her literary genius as she plot weaves beautifully and develops her characters fully to achieve a solid read. Becoming Rain features Luke as a 24 year old man, trying to earn his place in Rust's world. Rain enters his life and while the reader knows the secret of Rain, Luke is unsuspecting and captivated. Their relationship unfolds and sometimes it gets awfully stormy as they discover who they are individually, together as a couple, and also in the world they have chosen to immerse themselves in. To me, the title Becoming Rain can be explained in Rain's dialogue, "People hate it, but the world needs rain. It washes away dirt, dilutes the toxins in the air, feeds drought. It keeps everything around us alive." As a reader I'm not sure I would classify this as NA or Contemporary Romance because it's so much more, so much deeper. The realness and the amount of research required to write this piece of literature had to be cumbersome for Tucker but thankfully she committed to telling Luke's story because it was enlightening.

Amazing!. This book I wasn’t sure would be a fav, I knew it’d be good—man it blew me out of the water!!! I can’t wait for book 3 next. This book had my heart racing

In Review: Becoming Rain (Burying Water #2) by K.A. Tucker. Why oh WHY did I wait so long to read this book?! Seriously... why? I have no excuse. I loved Burying Water. So much, in fact, that I read it twice! I was over the moon when I got an early copy of this book because I couldn't wait to get Luke's story. But somewhere along the line, it got shoved to the back of the line and I didn't pick it up until this past weekend. I could kick myself for waiting this long, but at the same time, I'm thrilled I read it when I did. All you really need to know about Becoming Rain going in is that it's a story of the ultimate forbidden love – that between an undercover cop and her target. (Can we talk for a second about how much I LOVE that there was a female cop in this book? Hooray for strong, kickass women!) It's rife with suspense and enough twists that you're guaranteed to be on edge for at least half of the book. I certainly was. There were actually points in this book where I was afraid to turn the page for fear of what would happen next. But, all that said, it wasn't overly angsty or overplayed. It was just engaging as hell. Of course, I'm not going to tell you anything else about the plot because really you just need to experience it all for yourself. I loved Rain (er, Clara?). I adored Luke. I was as hopelessly wrapped up in their romance as I was the darker storyline of the underground car fencing and everything that came with it. As they started to get closer, I was both anxious for Luke to learn the truth and terrified of what would happen when he did. Not because he was dangerous, but because he was a genuinely good guy who was in over his head because he trusted his uncle and got in over his head. I didn't want to see him hurt. I didn't want to see Rain hurt. But I also knew that thinking they could escape everything without getting hurt was naive. More than anything, I just wanted them both to make it through safe to the other side. I hoped they could work through everything else at that point. Kathleen's books always have a way of grabbing ahold of me and not letting go until long after I've finished reading. This is exactly why I was thrilled to get a glimpse into Alex and Jesse's lives now, after the events of Burying Water. It's also how I know I won't be forgetting about Rain and Luke anytime soon, either. Excuse me now, it's time for me to jump right into Chasing River. It just seems like the right thing to do. I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

KA does it again!. I love this series. Luke was flawed but sweet and it was interesting reading from both their POVs. I was happy to see Jesse and Alex again too. I can't wait for the next book!

Becoming Rain. Another fantastic story by K.A. Tucker. A must read. I love ALL her books. Can't wait for the next one.

Great read. I really enjoyed this book. It was super suspenseful with all the action and drama. I couldn’t put it down! I was really surprised by Luke. I went into the book not really being a fan but as the story progressed, I found myself liking him more and more. He’s like an onion. Luke has a lot of layers to his character. The more you read, the harder you fall for him. Clara was a character that made me laugh. Her relationship with Stanley had me laughing so hard (especially when she first got him) and she had a goodness about her that was never really tarnished. Even with her difficult career, she was so very strong. I think Becoming Rain has to be one of my favourite books in this series. It had an excellent balance of romance and suspense. I would reccomend this book to readers who aren't afraid to think outside the box.

One of my favourite novels. Becoming rain is a great follow up to burying water. K.A. Tucker got me into her books with ten tiny breaths and never seems to disappoint with her books. Becoming rain continues on after everything that happened in burying water and brings you deeper into the world introduced by it. You get to go deeper into Luke's life and are introduced to Clare as their lives are brought together. Becoming rain might just be my favorite one yet.

Rain on my Parade Any Day... Dear Lord.. K. A. Tucker.. Did it again! How it is even possible that this series is just as enjoyable as the ten Tiny Breaths Series. Becoming Rain is the second book with its own complete plot yet interlaces with the pervious read.. T. A. Tucker had such a gift for this. I am getting book withdraws over this one for sure.. This read Rocks... Hot, suspense spicy meatballs..
