Little Beach Street Bakery by Jenny Colgan Book Summary

In the bestselling tradition of Jojo Moyes and Jennifer Weiner, New York Times bestselling author Jenny Colgan's moving, funny, and unforgettable novel Little Beach Street Bakery tells the story of a heartbroken young woman who turns a new page in her life ... by becoming a baker in the town of Cornwall.

A quiet seaside resort. An abandoned shop. A small flat. This is what awaits Polly Waterford when she arrives at the Cornish coast, fleeing a ruined relationship.

To keep her mind off her troubles, Polly throws herself into her favorite hobby: making bread. But her relaxing weekend diversion quickly develops into a passion. As she pours her emotions into kneading and pounding the dough, each loaf becomes better than the last. Soon, Polly is working her magic with nuts and seeds, chocolate and sugar, and the local honey—courtesy of a handsome beekeeper. Packed with laughter and emotion, Little Beach Street Bakery is the story of how one woman discovered bright new life where she least expected—a heartwarming, mouthwatering modern-day Chocolat that has already become a massive international bestseller.

All reasonable, if error filled, fun until…. It’s really quite terrible. Don’t bother trying to make sense of this book as, with huge respect, it does not appear the publisher did.

Taking A Chance. I absolutely loved everything about this story! All the elements… the description of the places, the people, their feelings and emotions. A truly beautiful story even with the many twists and turns.

Laden with emotion, you’ll be immersed in the story and the town. Until you have to tackle the recip. Polly’s life is in a tumble: a bad relationship where she capitulated to everything her ex wanted has left her homeless, jobless and near penniless. Moving away from the city and her upwardly mobile more successful friends to regain her bearings is a wrenching, but logical choice. Down the Cornwall coast is a small island, isolated by tides but offering the refuge and quiet that Polly can afford. A fews days of sukling, a massive storm that brought her someone else to focus on in the form of a puffling she would name Neil, and a community that is surviving on hard work, determination and stubbornness, she’s at loose ends. But, refuge comes in the form of kneading and tending to a loaf of bread. Soon Polly’s life is a mix of moments with Neil, struggling with the island’s bakery owner (and her landlady) and becoming a part of the town in ways she never expected. Most striking for me is the growth that Polly finds as she settles in and reintroduces herself to her baking, and the increase in her self-confidence as she realizes that her life, while not an easy one, is her own. With a dash of romance, one horribly ill-fated the other a bit more honest feeling, the story never lacks for moments to remember. Polbearne is based on the actual island of St. Michael’s Mount, the people and their connection to and controlled by the sea brings water and weather to life in a character of its own. Colgan highlights the transience of life and the overwhelming power and danger of a life at sea, using losses old and new to bring perspective and a strange sort of healing to al. Laden with emotion, you’ll be immersed in the story and the town. Until you have to tackle the recipes… I purchased a copy of the title for my personal library. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Just buy it and read it especially if you love bread. Wonderful book writing. I love books about bread making bakery’s. There love laughter an tears but happy endings too.
