The Death of WCW Book Reviews
The Death of WCW by RD Reynolds & Bryan Alvarez Book Summary
As history repeats itself, a wrestling classic becomes even more relevant
In 1997, World Championship Wrestling was on top. It was the number-one pro wrestling company in the world, and the highest-rated show on cable television. Each week, fans tuned in to Monday Nitro, flocked to sold-out arenas, and carried home truckloads of WCW merchandise. It seemed the company could do no wrong. But by 2001, however, everything had bottomed out. The company — having lost a whopping 95% of its audience — was sold for next to nothing to Vince McMahon and World Wrestling Entertainment. WCW was laid to rest. What went wrong?
This expanded and updated version of the bestselling Death of WCW takes readers through a detailed dissection of WCW’s downfall, including even more commentary from the men who were there and serves as an object lesson — and dire warning — as WWE and TNA hurtle toward the 15th anniversary of WCW’s demise.

Awesome Detailed Read. This was a great book to read. So much info about the rise and fall. I really appreciated how the authors approached the format of the novel as a conversation amongst a friend. This was easy to understand and had side bits on how WCW/WWE/ECW/TNA learned and didn’t learn from the mistakes that were made. I highly recommend this to any wrestling fan and someone who wants to know how to be in the mindset of someone running a wrestling promotion
The Death of WCW. This is a wonderful and albeit sad at times account of factually correct info not just about WCW, but the other players involved in other companies. Towards the mid to end, I found myself becoming depressed reading how bad things became for the folks, talent, and some office people who had no control over the poor decisions being made during the final years.
Great subject, poor writing. For a wrestling fan the subject matter of the book is extremely interesting. However, the opinions and reasoning of the author is often illogical and even silly. He constantly criticizes Vince McMahon for his booking decisions. Perhaps the author didn’t,t get the memo that Vince one the war and created a billion dollar business so he must have been doing something write. The writer somehow know the motives of Vince, Bischoff, Hogan, and Nash and that they are always evil. He criticizes Hogan for not wanting to job to Kidman and other at best mid-level guys. Who could blame Hogan, the biggest star in wrestling history, for not wanting to put over such guys. When Hogan returned to the WWE he was paired with the Rock. He was still a huge draw if used right. The book also presents as fact what in reality is merely hearsay with no documentation or the presented of the other person’s point of view. If this happened a couple of times it wouldn’t be a problem but happens for most of the info that does come from directly from WCW shows that any fan would have watched.
Great Read. I really enjoyed this book it opened my eyes to the death of a great promotion
Love it. Love the background info about WCW, and just the stuff that WCW did that show why it really died!
