The Silent Wife Book Summary

Soon to be a major motion picture starring Nicole Kidman, fans of The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl will love The Silent Wife

"I gobbled it down in one sitting." – Anne Lamott, People

Jodi and Todd are at a bad place in their marriage. Much is at stake, including the affluent life they lead in their beautiful waterfront condo in Chicago, as she, the killer, and he, the victim, rush haplessly toward the main event. He is a committed cheater. She lives and breathes denial. He exists in dual worlds. She likes to settle scores. He decides to play for keeps. She has nothing left to lose. Told in alternating voices, The Silent Wife is about a marriage in the throes of dissolution, a couple headed for catastrophe, concessions that can’t be made, and promises that won’t be kept. Expertly plotted and reminiscent of Gone Girl and These Things Hidden, The Silent Wife ensnares the reader from page one and does not let go.

I was expecting the likes of Gone Girl and this just didn't deliver. Deep character building and great description writing but just not all that exciting...

This was my first book by this author. I don't like the writing style. The storyline was good, but I felt like the story dragged on especially in the beginning. It took a while for the book to get good. A lot of unnecessary psycho babble.

The book would get good then drag, then good then drag again. It was an ok quick read. Would I read it again probably not.

I was unimpressed with this read. Both main characters left much to be desired, and the plot was shallow and a little boring at times. I found myself skimming through several chapters. I'm very surprised this book is being compared to Gone Girl and Girl on a Train.

The writing was smart, but the story left more to be desired. It was difficult to like any of the characters, and the climax just wasn't climatic.

I'm trying my hardest to give this a fair rating. This book was highly disappointing in my humble opinion. I give it two stars only for two reasons. The first is because the authors style of writing is refreshing and descriptive. The second is because is wasn't so horrible that I couldn't finish it. The book has absolutely no twist. I can't even comment on its predictability because there is nothing to predict. The story can be summed up in one sentance. Man cheats on wife, wife has man offed. There no action scenes. No complexity to its plot. Too much fluff. Just UGH. I don't see how this will be a satisfying picture film.

I very much enjoyed the story of the main character, Jodi. Anyone who reads this will somehow be able to relate to some parts if not all of her. I was intrigued after Chapter One and read some each day. I was stunned by what I was reading and The End happened so fast that I had to read it twice.

This book travels through the mundane life of a "Husband" and "Wife", bouncing back and forth through her ordinary domesticated home life and his indiscretions through 90% of the book. There are hardly any to no real plot twists. The most amusing, and utterly truely amazing, part of this book was the author's ability to write an entire chapter of the Husband have itchy burning balls.
