Slow and sad. I stopped reading at times as it was slow. As I love “Christian fiction “ I downloaded this. I truly hope that no church has such irreverent and disrespectful people- not to mention a total lack of knowledge or respect for learning and teaching scripture. So disappointing

Plucking One String. Thanks for the laughs out loud and entertaining wit of the church ladies. You could have been describing our Baptist group. There were so many words of wisdom and examples of how NOT to talk that I may have to read it again. God bless your honesty in telling it like it is! G

The Lutheran ladies' circle plucking one string. Absolutely loved this book!! Enjoyed all people in the book. Such a great read.

Relatable and fun. I did not grow up Lutheran, but I did grow up in a parsonage (pastor’s home) in a tight denomination (which I will not name) so I can relate to the shenanigans and inner workings of a church family with its ups and downs and the quirky-ness of people, especially those aging, set in their ways, resisting change as they come up against the next generation with their “new-fangeled” ideas. My dad pastored his last church for 18 years and I pity his successor, being compared to him - everybody loved him. Once I got past the chit-chat petty ways of the characters in this story, I could see Vera as much like my mom and me wanting to do everything the right way, trying to please even the crankiest of parishioners. This was an enjoyable read for me.

Funny. A good book to read. I don’t know how other pastors’ wives are but the ones I know aren’t as blatantly arrogant. But then the book wouldn’t have been written. I did enjoy this. There are some very funny episodes.

I am right!. I was raised in a small Swedish -Lutheran church on the Great Plains of Nebraska. I moved to the city when I went to the university. I’m in my 60s now and I have city friends from the East coast who forever tease me and claim my reasoning for doing things is just excuses. Thank you for putting my reasonings in print. I knew I wasn’t going crazy!!! Reading this book is like going home again!

Clever, entertaining read. Plucking one String, the first installment of the Lutheran Ladies Circle, was a sweet book that provides a good story, well-developed characters and a behind-the-scenes look at life in a small town church and community. Even though the church in the book is Evangelical Lutheran, most of the story could relate to any long-established church of any denomination. With my experience on the staffs of churches of two denominations, in addition to serving as elder, and on nominating and other committees, I can attest to the authenticity of the incidents and characters. In addition, there is the story of a new, discombobulated widow, Vera, as she acclimates to her “new normal” state and starts down the next path of her life. Incidentally, I felt that the other church members were a bit hard on Vera. But read it for yourself, and see what you think!
