HardBall by CD Reiss Book Summary

Vivian’s a pretty mild-mannered person.
Even with a busload of hyperactive fourth graders going to a baseball signing, she’s patient and kind.
Even when she meets Dash Wallace…major league legend and star of her hottest daydreams…she keeps her cool.
Kind of.
Mostly.
It was fine.
Then his glove is missing and he accuses one of those fourth graders of being a thief.
You do not come after one of Vivian’s kids. She will defend them to the death..
Dash suddenly finds himself with an apology on his lips and an unexplainable attraction to a woman who’s just not his type.
But he keeps his cool.
Kind of.
Mostly.
It’s fine until the regular season, when he’s going to travel with the team.
He has rituals. Processes. Routines.
You could even call them superstitions.
They involve having a woman in every city he plays, and Vivian’s going to have to be fine with that, or he’s going to be just fine leaving her.
Kind of.
Mostly.
Not fine.
Vivian lays down the law, and Dash has to choose between her and winning.

Sexy & Sweet Sports Romance will leave you grinning. HardBall by CD Reiss is a charming, sweet contemporary sports romance with some heat. I love the combination of sweet and spicy, and Reiss’ has balanced the two for the perfect game…I mean book. I fell in love with Reiss’ characters; they are lovable, realistic, and totally relatable. Vivian is an elementary school librarian with a generous heart and a penchant for baseball. She and her fabulous stepdad are ardent Dodgers fans. He is a generous, kind man who is the perfect male role model. His relationship with Vivian is enviably loving and supportive. When Vivian meets Dashiel Wallace during a school field trip, both their lives are turned upside down. Dash is the elusive, reclusive star shortstop for the Dodgers. He is the quintessential studly athlete. I swooned over Reiss’ descriptions of Dash ‘s athletic prowess and features. Dash, #19, is easy on the eyes, but there is so much more to him. A guy with Dash’s swagger who talks about books and can quote classic literature will undo me every time! What made Dash absolutely delicious was not his seeming perfection, but all his foibles. Reiss’ characterization of this man hit home with me. HardBall is a pitching dual. It’s all about skill and strategy. The plot is well paced, and Reiss doesn’t rush the layered development of characters and relationships. Reiss did not shy away from showing her characters inner demons and struggles—whether they eventually overcome them or not. The story dynamics and chemistry between all the characters is engaging. Reiss’ always makes me care deeply about her characters; she has also filled my fictional little black book with delightful book boyfriends. Pay careful attention to the descriptions of Los Angeles and the Dodgers’ empire, because it is almost as good as taking a tour of the town. I loved the structure of the story. It is told in dual point-of-view narrative, and Reiss’ incorporation of late night text messages between Viv and Dash—replete with the typing symbol, “ {…}” is engaging and au courant. I felt the characters anticipation as they stared at their phone screens anxiously waiting while the other typed out their response. Does Reiss know baseball? Yeah, she does! Her descriptions of the shortstop to second plays are poetic. This book was written by a smart, romantic, woman who is also a fan of baseball. I really enjoyed this enchanting, sports romance; it brought a lot of smiles to my face, a couple chuckles, and a bizarre desire to watch some men in snug white pants run around a grassy field. With HardBall, Reiss’ has hit for the cycle.

horribly written, wouldn't even if it was free. How is this 5 stars is beyond me. The chemistry between the two characters is lukewarm at best. I couldn't even get past 1/5th of the book without wishing I could delete and request for a refund. Definitely avoiding this author here on out.

SLOW. Gawd! I almost didn’t finish, but forced my way through. After page 200 it was kind of like GET ON WITH IT ALREADY! Good storyline, 2 main characters weren’t incredibly likable (IMO) but I have read worse. Would not recommend.

Hard to Follow. The author has a different style of writing that I’m not used to and it was hard for me to follow.

HardBall. Great read

Hardball ❤️. Amazing book couldn't put it down! 😍

Another winner!. I love a good sports romance and CD Reiss did not disappoint with this sexy story. This standalone was very different than previous books that I had read by CD Reiss, but still had the heat that I have come to expect. Dash is a dirty-talking, fun loving and mysterious baseball player who meets Vivian, just a normal school librarian. I loved the character of Vivian, she is so easy to relate to. This story brings all the feels while still bringing lots of sexy times!

Loved it!!. Love the game, the team, the characters, the story, everything. It was such a good read

5 Team Apple Dash Stars!!. Ahhhh I loved this, like so hard! I'm Julia Andrews spinning on top of a mountain singing my love of all things Dash and Vivian!! Those two are so great together. The love, the issues, them finding common ground to work everything out, his dirty talking sexy self...so awesome. "I was a meaningless ball of thoughts and fears with no control over the way my life unfurled. But with her, I wasn’t afraid." I'm a huge Capo fan, I'm thinking this book might nudge him out of that top spot. Wow, what a book. I devoured this whole story in one sitting, I couldn't put it down. The ending left me with a big gin and made me all happy-clappy. For me, this book is for sure worthy of a reread. I can't recommend this book enough!!

Zero sentence structure. The grammar and sentence structure were awful. Very hard to read.

Quite raunchy. If u like s and m and lots of graphic detail this is the book for you. Good story of a star who falls in love with a nobody. Good character development.

Great story. I love CD Reiss, and I have read her later books. This book about a ball player is different from what I’m used to. I actually enjoyed this story. 💗 These two have their own lives, and fate intervenes. I love the fact Vivian respects herself and doesn’t give into the temptation of his whim. As they navigate through their desires and dating, is Vivian enough for Dash? Dash has his own routine and own issues to communicate. I truly respect the way CD writes about Dash and who he is. There are real people out there who navigate through life while dealing with their own challenges.

Hardball. Yes it needs editing but I was smiling through the story anyway. I could relate to Vivian. The topic of ADD was handled really well. The end was satisfying.

Couldn’t stop!. Great story! I couldn’t put it down. Loved the characters.

Great voice!. I loved reading this book.it was a fun quick read- possibly because I couldn't put it down.

Bdsm. Made it to 38% and had to bail

loved it!. 4.5 stars! Harball by C.D. Reiss was a good read for me. I really enjoyed it. Told from both the heroine and heros POV, Hardball follows Vivian Foster, a librarian who brings the children extra apples she pays for out of her own pocket for the ones that don’t have a chance to eat before class or the children who don’t qualify for the school lunch program. Vivian cares for every student that comes into the library. The hero is three time Golden Gloves Shortstop for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Dash Wallace. Dash is extremely dedicated to his sport, its his life. Dash also has another element to him that has helped him be as great as he is but has also held him back when it comes to his life outside of his sport. Vivian attends a field trip to a local Dodgers event when some of the star players are signing autographs. This is where she meets Dash Wallace for the first time, while trying to get his signature on a baseball, a birthday present for her father. Dash implies that Vivian has other motives for the trip and Vivian can’t believe the words that are coming out of his mouth, but since she is on the trip with her job she gets called to help with the lunches and leaves Dash with a comment that gets him thinking. That however is the last time the pair see each other. Dash’s most prized belonging gets stolen at the event so he goes to the school library looking for Vivian to help him get it back, it has nothing to do with the fact he hasn’t been able to forget about her since that day. And that starts the twist and turns of their romance. There are so many layers to this story that make reading it so much more entertaining and enjoyable. Vivian is only just recovering from her past relationship that made her feel like she was the boring one holding her ex back and Dash just wants a fling until he leaves for Spring Training because he doesn't do relationships. As you can imagine Vivian doesn’t want an expiration date and declines being his fling with an expiration date. Dash decides to get rid of the expiration date and see what happens, although the part of him that has helped him stay great at his sport may just be the downfall of his relationship with the one person he’s learned to care about and doesn’t want to lose. C. D.Reiss has done an amazing job with this book. Not only did the main characters feel like they were real but so did the secondary characters. Vivian’s father was such a great aspect of this novel and he didn’t feel like a secondary character at all. You ended up wishing you got to know him more. Every secondary character had an impact to this story, not matter how little their part of the story was. Every single character was written amazingly. I could really feel the emotions of the heroine and hero and I could feel their struggle with the things that came their way. This book gave me butterflies but it also made me hold my breath when things were getting intense and emotional. I felt all the emotions throughout this story. I highly recommend this book. C. D. Reiss has wrote a beautiful story about a sports star and a normal woman who fall in love even with the obstacles they face. *An ARC was sent to me in return for an honest review*

Claypot2850. This is my first CD Reiss read and definitely won't be my last. Dual POV (which I love) and great charcters/dialogue really drew me in. Great chemistry between the two and interesting to see a main character who wasn't pefect. Highly recommend
