Zwanzig Jahre nach der Gründung des Staates Israel wurde in Jerusalem die Matthäus-Passion von Johann Sebastian Bach für Juden und Christen erstmals aufgeführt. Dieses historische Ereignis ist der Anlass, dem Leser die Stadt des Friedens heilsgeschichtlich wie auch geografisch vorzustellen.
