Great pace, interesting characters and story. I really enjoyed Changer. Perfect mix of action, thrills and story. The author does an incredible job of explaining the complex "events" that occur in a simple and clear way. I could easily picture the "changes" happening. Can't wait for more about KESTREL.

Captures you from start to finish. Amazing read, my only hope is that the next book in the series is out soon. 👍

An excellent debut novel. This has been a thoroughly enjoyable read for me. I’m already looking forward to book two of KESTREL!

Great tension, characters, and plot!. CHANGER is a fantastic read if you like suspenseful thrillers. The characters are diverse and well thought out and the storyline is on target. I'm a fan of sci-fi, so this novel was perfect for me. Each chapter moved the plot forward and deepened my connection with the characters. The word "balance" keeps popping into my head. There is a lovely balance between action, character development, and location detail. As with any great book, the suspense made me want to read without stopping causing the joy of the process to end too quickly. I'm very satisfied with the ending yet I'm hungry for more. It's good to hear that Matt has future books planned for these characters. I highly recommend this book. You won't be disappointed.

A great first novel that kept me reading well into the night. I'm a picky, fussy reader who lays unforgivingly into minor plot holes and unexplained miracles. I've given more than one action or sci-fi novel a bad review for not convincing me. Fortunately, Changer kept me reading until well into the night (early morning, actually). What I like about author Matt Gemmell's writing on his website is what I like about this book: he likes people, and he seems a lot like a good person. That's important when it comes time to write characters that are likable in addition to whatever other jobs they have in the book. I'm glad there were plenty of hateful people here as well, but I hate books that I come away from realizing there was no one in them I really cared what happened to. Another big problem with a lot of first novels that I've read lately is tortured writing and overwrought use of language, as though each sentence was created to house a noticeable section of thesaurus. Mr. Gemmell doesn't subscribe to that school of writing; his style is descriptive and detailed, but he stays out of the way and lets the story unfold. His clear writing never calls attention to itself, but does properly engage the reader in the story. Well done there. I do have some questions about anti-tachyons and force-duels on chapel rooftops, but in the case of Changers, I'm ok with that. Sometimes hand-wavy insistences that I not think too hard are annoying to me, but I didn't feel that way here. I'm not sure I 100% buy it, but at the same time, the story was solid enough that it didn't bother me much. What I do know for certain is that I want to read more books in this series, and from this author in general. Congratulations on the first novel, Matt. I hope we see the next one soon!

Great read. Fun fast moving story. Looking forward to volume II Of the KESTREL team

Thrilling page turner. Great, easy read.. This is Gemmell's first attempt at long form fiction and he demonstrates immense chops. The book is a page-turner. It's easy to read but is by no means lacking substance. While some aspects of the writing suggest a fresh-off-the-block somewhat by-the-book style that is perhaps slightly vanilla, he nevertheless nails every page. There is no excess in this book, and yet no lack of poetic detail; each word is deliberately chosen and delivered with intent. This is a great read, no "for his first book" qualifier needed. I look forward to reading his subsequent work as he continues to hone a craft over which he clearly has considerable mastery at this early stage.

Hard to put down. Matt Gemmell’s first novel delivers. A gripping story, well paced, with believable characters and exciting action, definitely hard to put down. Highly recommended.

An Adventure Worth Embarking On. I purchased Changer because I am a fan of the author—Matt Gemmell. I’ve followed his writings on his website for years, and leaped at the chance to dive into his fiction. Mr. Gemmell has an extraordinary ability to construct words that evoke emotions deep within. He has a profound knack for describing a scene in such detail that it feels like you are there, and he does it without being tedious about it. Changer is fantastic adventure, and I encourage you to find a place where you can devote your attention to it, and lose yourself for a few brief hours or days.

Great, quick, fun read. Five stars for good reading. Some odd flaws—pacing not quite right; "twist" a bit predictable—but lots of fun anyway. Gemmell's style is excellent (want more? His blog is consistently just as good and better), and his minor details are delightful.

Very entertaining read. Great pacing, interesting characters and a good plot. I'm eager for more!

A phenomenally enjoyable read!. Matt Gemmell’s first novel is, I think, quite likely the best fictionalized interpretation of the famous Schrödinger paradox (you know, the one featuring the cat that’s either dead or alive). But lest one think this book will appeal only to physics geeks, belay that thought: this adventure-thriller is a legitimate page-turner, and will delight anyone who appreciates a well-crafted story. Matt has an uncanny ability to draw characters who instantly leap off the page and into one’s imagination — and stay there, well beyond the last pages of this first volume in what promises to be a terrific series.

Cracking fast-paced tale. There’s not a lot of depth to this, but it makes up for it with excitement and drama. Once the action’s started it doesn’t really slow down until the end. A great combination of secret forces, huge consequences, chases, sciFi and tension which kept me turning the pages - I finished it in a few days. A great thrill ride. I’ll be buying Number 2!

A great read!. The story hums along from the first page until the last and kept me gripped throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed Changer, and can't wait for the next instalment! Hurry up Matt!!

Crichton-esque. An extremely fast paced techno thriller, solid plot, believable characters and an explosive ending, someone should make a movie of this.

Loved it. Gripping from beginning to end. Truly enjoyable.

Great, great.. Excellent debut novel from Matt Gemmell. This introduction of the Kestrel team fairly whets the appetite for more adventures. Can't wait till the next one.

Good First Book. First outing for the author and the characters and makes for an enjoyable read. Look forward to seeing how the characters develop as other books are published.

Good fun. This book was good fun to read. Moves along at a good pace and takes place in fun locations. Pulls you in sufficiently.

Page turner. Had followed Matt for ages on Twitter because of his tech credentials and I’m glad I hung around for his career switch to novelist. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I’m usually a slow reader but I got through this in a few days (which is highly unusual for me). It’s gripping and believable with characters you truly come to care about. I found it hard to leave alone and the story hung around with me for a long time after. He might not be an influence for Matt but I detected shades of Michael Marshall Smith in the writing — both have a way of writing the fantastical elements with wit, style and realism that speaks to my sense of humour.

Great read. Great book, easy to digest

Meet KESTREL. The first fiction book by Matt Gemmell (@mattgemmell) was an excellent read - a page turner that had me working through the book quickly. I will certainly be looking forward to more of Mr Gemmell's fiction writing, and to the ongoing adventures of Neil Aldridge, CAPT Greenwood and the KESTREL team. Highly enjoyed, and thoroughly recommended.

Enjoyable read!. Totally engrossed by this book: consumed it in one day! When is the next one due?

Sonia Gentle. A book to keep you enthralled to the end. Interesting premise that I enjoyed exploring through the narrative. Recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Game Changer. Could not put it down from start to finish. Great plot with with awesome characters. Well done Mr Gemmell, can't wait for the next Kestrel book.

What a read. This is one of the best books I've read in a long time and I can't wait for the next installment in the series. I highly recommend you give this a read. It is more than worth your time.

Good start from a new author. It was a fun read with a gripping climax that felt almost cinematic. The good guys felt real, though the villains motivations were left a mystery. I’m looking forward to reading Toll, the next book in the series, and continuing to watch Gemmell mature as a fiction writer.

A good, engaging action novel. I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of this book: Changer is a well-written, smartly paced action novel that combines physics, tech and guns with a dash of the supernatural. It's a great summer read, and I'm looking forward to the next KESTREL book!

Great storyline and conclusion. I confess that I haven't read a full novel for a really long time. It consumes too much time. That being said I got sucked into the story and stayed up a few late nights in order to find out how everything would end. Great first book Matt!

Very nice read. The thriller is really well constructed and written. There's some science fiction to it, but so well explained and integrated that it feels real... I highly recommend it!
