Away in Montana by Jane Porter Book Summary

Beautiful, spirited heiress McKenna Frasier–daughter to one of the Butte Copper Kings—vowed eternal love to Sinclair Douglas before she left for college and an introduction to society.  Four years in New York and travel abroad have opened her eyes, making her realize she wanted more than marriage and a simple Montana life.  But when McKenna commits an unforgivable transgression and destroys her reputation, her dreams are shattered and she is forced to return to Montana disgraced, disowned and unmarriageable.

Sinclair Douglas left Butte to escape the Frasier power and Frasier name, but suddenly all anyone talks about in Marietta is scandalous McKenna Douglas, Paradise Valley’s new teacher.  Sin doesn’t want to know about McKenna anymore.  He doesn’t want to have to help her, and he sure as hell doesn’t want to love her.  But McKenna has lived so long in his heart that it’s her home–even if she doesn’t deserve to be there.

But if there is one man who knows how to rebuild a life when all dreams have been smashed, it’s fierce, uncompromising Sinclair Douglas. Can Sinclair and McKenna heal enough to find their own Christmas miracle, and one more chance at love?

second chance love set at Christmas. Beautiful story of a second chance love at Christmas set in 1800s Montana. McKenna returns as the school teacher after having from society in New York. The love she left behind, Sinclair, is still there but not ready to forgive. Still in love, they must find a way to forgive and make peace before they can reunite. A mine accident brings them together with a promise of marriage if Sinclair survives. I love a wonderful HEA in a Christmas story.

Enjoyed the book. Good characters and interesting plot.

Love it. McKenna Frasier and Sinclair Douglas were as good as committed to marriage when she left for New York to enter college promising to return to her. While McKenna is out in society Sinclair is working in her fathers mine and building there future home. The longer McKenna is gone the more the two grow apart. When McKenna destroys her reputation she returns to Montana to rebuild it. Once they are back around one another feelings come up again but can they move on with there past hurts. I wouldn't normally pick up a Historical Romance book. I'm glad I read this one though, it kept me interested and excited for more.

Second Chance Romance. Away in Montana by Jane Porter is book number one in the Paradise Valley Ranch series. This is McKenna Frasier and Sinclair Douglas' story. This story takes place in 1889. Things were definitely different during that time especially for women. If a woman made a mistake, it could cost her everything. McKenna and Sinclair 'Sin' have a history and their relationship did not end well. McKenna has been forced to return to Montana due to her reputation being destroyed. She has also been disowned by her wealthy father. McKenna is lucky to get a job teaching school. Sinclair doesn't want to help McKenna or love her. But, will Sinclair move on with his life or take a chance on McKenna again? Will McKenna and Sinclair get a second chance at love? This story was an emotional and sweet romance during a difficult time for woman. Be prepared for surprises and twists in this story. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Away in Montana. I have read several books by Ms Porter and have enjoyed almost all. Sad to say this was not one of them. Just not what I was used to and it seemed too simplistic and not up to her usual standards.

Love to Montana. Jane Porter has a fantastic new series, based in Paradise Valley. Away in Montana is beautifully written. The scenery makes me feel like I’m back home, only at Montana’s beginning instead of it’s centennial. I can’t wait to read more.

Away in Montana. Good, heartwarming story. Distracting in places where better proofreading would have caught errors. Examples: eek out a living rather than eke out a living. Or the times then was used when than was the correct word. (There were others) Did enjoy the story and want to keep going with Ellie.

Excellent. Loved this!! I've enjoyed most of the Marietta stories and it was fun to read the history of one of my favorite fictional towns. McKenna and Sinclair were friends throughout their youth. Their feelings went far deeper than friendship but in 1889 society's rules said that the two could not be together. He was a poor miner and she was an heiress. After going off to college, McKenna's strong will and resentment towards the rules society placed on her leave her with broken dreams and a damaged reputation. She has no choice but to return to Marietta. Sinclair has spent this time working hard and raising his status in life. No longer is he a poor miner, he is a mine owner and someone who demands respect. Sinclair is not happy about how the town is treating McKenna when she returns and vows to do everything in his power to help her. Keeping her out of his heart again will be the hardest thing he's ever tried to do. This one is very well done and definitely a book I recommend.

JOE’S THOUGHTS. This book is a little different making this about a woman wanting to be in charge of own life, while finding that love can be a shared. A great historical read.

Away in Montana. Reversing circumstances-love and tradgity-emotional and love ends up winning

Second Chance for Love. I loved Jane Porter’s historical story, Away in Montana. This is the first book in the Paradise Valley Ranch series which will give those readers who love the Marietta, Montana stories a glimpse at the town’s founding families. This is story features McKenna Frasier and Sinclair Douglas. After being forced out of polite society for what was considered scandalous acts and being disinherited by her wealthy, mine owner father, McKenna returns to Montana to become the first teacher in Paradise Valley. There she meets her old friend, the boy she always loved, Sinclair, not sure if he has forgiven her. The story is one of second chances at not just finding love but also accepting that love. I loved this insightful peek into 1889 Marietta. Many names were familiar, Sam Graff and his hotel as well as Mr. and Mrs. Bramble. We were also given a look at the way residents celebrated when Montana became a state. Another aspect that I enjoyed is the timely reminder of how women were once treated and how few freedoms they actually had during that time period. McKenna is a forerunner of the women’s reform movement. She strongly wanted freedom and equality for women as was evidenced by her actions and words. This was a fun, wonderful and entertaining story with very loveable and authentic characters you want to cheer on, hoping for that happy ending. The characters were well written with complex characteristics. The story line was riveting and kept my attention to the very end. I enjoyed reading this book and had trouble putting this book down. I highly recommend this book to other readers. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Away in Montana. Oh Jane you tore me apart! I have most of your books. They know mostly that there is some fun and everyone is really ok. This story starts at the beginning of Marietta. I had tissues in my lap so I could grab one quick. Sinclair worked for her father running his mines until he couldn't take it anymore. McKenna was sent west to Montana because she was fallen. Now she lives in a cabin and teaches the children. Once upon a time they loved each other but she was only for herself. His sister Johanna and Ellie, a rancher's daughter, drive stakes into McKenna to keep her away from him. But he can't stay away from her. I would recommend this to everyone. Don't miss the big blast at the end. Now I have to wait forever to get the next book. I volunteered to read and review this book.

Away in Montana. I loved this book! I really like a good historical romance. Being transported to frontier Montana and getting a peek at what life may have been like back then is such a treat. McKenna and Sinclair were great characters. She is trying to get on her feet after being disowned by her father and dropped from high society. Sinclair has made it on his own in Montana through hard work. Although they were childhood friends, things had changed between them. I loved seeing how much they still cared for each other after years apart.

Away in Montana. Very easy read... enjoyable story.
