I denne forrygende komedie – én af Holbergs bedste og hyppigst opførte - møder vi en del af det same persongalleri som I “Jeppe på Bjerget”. Den studentikose Rasmus Berg, Jeppes søn, har studeret I København og tillagt sig forfinede, arrogante akademiske manérer og insisterer på at blive kaldt Erasmus Montanus – en latinificering af hans eget navn. Han træder respektløst alle over tæerne, støder sin kommende svigerfar fra sig, afslører at Per Degn ikke forstår latin men ‘fører bevis’ for at han en hane og at Mor Nille en sten og hævder ligefrem at Jorden er rund. Hans får til slut sin velfortjente lærestreg da han bliver narret til at springe soldat og må indrømme at hans studenternøkker er gået for vidt – og at Jorden er ‘flak’.
