Loved it!. 5 Stars Memento Mori by Lexi Blake is the first book in the Masters & Mercenaries: The Forgotten series. It is a spin-off of the Master & Mercenaries and was fan-freakin’-tastic! Packed with so many twists and turns, I couldn’t put it down. As much as it made my heart pound at certain moments, it also had me crying a tear or two. If you’ve read the Masters & Mercenaries Series, you’ll know at the end of it Dr. Hope McDonald had captured and wiped the memories of six men-The Lost Boys. **edited to add-you don’t need to read the Master & Mercenaries series to fully enjoy and follow along with this one** Jax, who has no memory of his past, is a hacker that was rescued by Ian Taggert. Taggert and his team wants to help Jax and the rest of the Lost Boys figure out who they were before they were captured. While setting up their mission in Bliss, Colorado to try to find The Ranch(where they were held), Jax meets River and sparks fly. Even with no recollection of ever being with a woman, Jax knows she special. But with the danger that he is in, he doesn’t know if it worth the risk… River is dealing with the death of her father and trying to keep her business afloat. She doesn’t trust men but when she meets Jax, she can’t stay away. Will they be able to help each other through the pain and loss they suffered? Or will the danger Jax is in stop them from being together? Lexi Blake has me hooked with the start of this series. I loved it! Jax and River both balanced each other out and honestly their connection was beautiful to read. I cannot wait book 2 to come out!!!

Loved it!!. Lexi Blake is a Mistress of story telling. There's intrigue, harrowing moments, passion.. Wow the passion is off the charts hot. I love catching up with old friends from Masters and Mercenaries and getting to know new characters, The Forgotten, The Lost Boys they need their story told. I'm excited for this newest addition to the series and can't wait to read more.

SOME BACKGROUND: Several months earlier the mercenaries from the McKay-Taggart Black Ops group rescued, from an unauthorized military lab, six men they labelled the ‘Lost Boys’. With their memories wiped clean, no ID, and no traceable DNA, the Lost Boys were essentially ‘new born’ soldiers trained to kill and destroy. Told from dual third person perspectives (Jax and River) MEMENTO MORI follows the building relationship between Jax, and tour guide River Lee. Jax, and his fellow Lost Boys are desperate to uncover the truth about their pasts, and the drugs used to control their lives, but without any memories of the who, how, or why, the where was a mystery until the probability of a secret government lab in the mountains near Bliss, Colorado. Enter mountain tour guide River Lee, a woman whose own life spiralled out of control with the death of her father, and the subsequent fraudulent marriage to a serial con-man. What ensues is the building relationship and love between Jax and River, and the potential fall-out as Jax must keep secret the truth about the mission that is about to go horribly wrong. Jax is a man frustrated about his lack of a past. There is a very large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including the men that Jax calls brothers: Dante, Sasha, Tucker, Owen and Robert, as well as Big Tag; Heather aka Solo; Andy and Ty. The requisite evil has many faces, some of whom may be working for the same side. You may need a spread-sheet to keep track of all of the characters, and their relationships to one another. There is plenty of confusion as well, with the numerous names and aliases for all of the story line characters, which makes for a difficult time trying to keep track of the familial relationships, government departments and connections. MEMENTO MORI is a story of family, friendship, betrayal and loss focusing on six men who have had to relearn the skills of life, as well as their struggle to move on from the evil that continues to permeate their minds. The premise is entertaining and engaging; the characters are broken, colorful, dynamic and lost; the romance is passionate and heated.
